Handball players are way more than moderately athletic -- in Europe, where people care about the sport. In the US, not so much. At one point the US was recruiting people for the national teams, like college basketball players who weren't good enough or big enough to even dream about going pro but who were decent athletes.
It's a cool sport. I'd like to see it here more. I got exposed to it as a kid because of some camp counselor who was a world-class player before he retired (and who later coached a gold-medal winning team).
