It was just one of many "dungeon crawl" arcade games seeking to capitalize on the D&D cache amongst the quartered nerd set. I think there was an officially licensed arcade game or console video game, but it wasn't Gauntlet. Gauntlet was just the awesomest knock-off.

Having said all that, the Queen reference was a joke and a callback to the old SNL sketch where Dana Carvey as Casey Kasem declares Queen the #1 rock band of all time. Surprisingly, I couldn't find this sketch on YouTube.

As I cannot top Atticus' analogies, I offer this
(Spree: article from The Believer about playing a game with E. Gary Gygax. Includes the bonus sexist line: "If you are not between the ages of eighteen and forty-five, or if you happen to be a woman, you may not know what Dungeons & Dragons is, exactly, or why you would want to get involved with it, even in the context of an essay in a respectable magazine such as this one.") |

 | I think I have most of these. Their "Rare on Air" volumes 1 & 4 are phenomenal. Volume 1 starts with Leonard Cohen reciting a poem and ends with David Wilcox singing what may be the saddest song ever written. Radiohead, Ozomatli, Jeff Buckley, and Soul Coughing are on volume 4. They're both out of print but used copies are easy to find online. |

				Everyone's a little bit sexist, that's true.

I'm sure there is some underlying sexism (and some not-so-underlying sexism, such as that preposterous Hillary Cried! crap that went on around the time of the NH primary), but her biggest problem is not sexism. See points 1 and 2 above. I don't find the Obama campaign all that different from the excitement that Bill Clinton's '92 run generated (especially among young voters). Hillary can't generate that kind of excitement and the reason why has more to do with her last name than it does with her gender. IMO.

Meet the Press mentioned a Pew Foundation Poll that surveyed how "likable" voters across the board found each candidate. The results weren't that surprising:

Obama - 50 percent likable; 35 percent said somewhat likable; 10 not likable.
Clinton - 26 likable, 37 somewhat, 33 not likable.
McCain - 21 likable, 55 somewhat, 18 not likable.

Tim Russert asked James Carville about that poll, and he said, "Well... people think she's smart, experienced, tough and not a particularly likable person." Even her supporters acknowledge that Hillary Clinton has not been able to overcome the perception that she's not warm or authentic. Some of that problem may be chalked up to sexism, but I think that what Hillary has done, how she has done it, and what that says about who she is causes a greater problem for her in the polls. Then again, she won today, so I could be wrong. |
