 | Yes, a downside to the Panasonic Lumix is the proprietary battery, which is very hard to find if you want to buy an extra. Also, the firewire cable has a non-standard end on the camera side, so even though i have a jillion firewire cables for every manner of equipment, including my Olympus digital, I only have one that works for my Lumix, and somehow, whenver the camera and the computer are in the same room, the cable is never with them. Sometimes downloading pictures is like trying to schedule a fucking conference call. |

The worst thing about my Nikon digital is what RP (I think) stated in the last round of this discussion. The delay between the depression of the shutter and the actual shot can be frustrating, particularly when trying to photograph something transient or moving, like a small child. The lense on my camera is also somewhat limited but my expectations weren't that high on a snapshot camera.
 | This is what happens when you talk to an idiot who doesn't know what the hell he's talking about. Canon has made their own lenses for decades. Hell they made lenses for the Sony and Panasonic camcorders for years. Only they reserved the triple coated lenses for themselves and optical quality glass for themselves. Most of the lenses are made of plastic materials now - for price reasons. Don't know if they're still making the lenses for Sony and Panasonic anymore, but I haven't seen the Canon rep for awhile.

True on the ease of use issue. I currently have a Canon and find it overly complicated to use - don't think I'd buy another one just for that reason. Still, the Nikon is a good camera with a good lens. Just wanted to clear up the lie.

 | I think the technology has gotten better across the board -- the key variable is age of the camera rather than brand. The Nikon I just bought is much better than the (more expensive) Sony I bought a few years ago.

Dear Less,Bodog is taking bets on whether Barry Bonds will be indicted before July 31. Vegas is not participating. Are the odds good on this?

 | My friend ended up with the updated version of my camera, which I bought last year. I played around with my friend's when I showed her how to use it. It seemed to have the same delay in the shutter release. If there was improvement, it wasn't noticeable to me.

ETA: I didn't mention earlier that the Canon film cameras have also seemed unnecessarily complicated to me, particularly in comparison with Nikon cameras. Nikon cameras are works of art.

This is long, but if you're having a slow day, and you're at all interested in the Hollywood creative process, this is brilliant. I'm sure that this story is 100% accurate and true and not embellished at all. http://bamkapow.com/kevin-smith-on-h...ipt-192-p.html |

 | I think it was the female double agent mystique, but I agree. She never had those crazy neck veins before though, which makes me think she's been laying off the calories. |
