You were right in high school.

Re: Towards A Virtual Williamsburg!

"Since the cops started taking photos of Apple products and the like in plain sight, then sending the image and a polite, vaguely Big Brother–ish reminder to the owner in hopes of shaming them into not being stupid, grand larcenies are reportedly down 47 percent in the neighborhood."

I have been thinking about this, and then it cropped again, and I've decided to come out. For me, the greatest live record of all time, high school edition, was a 3-disc set Chicago came out with, Live at Carnegie Hall. It was before Terry Kath killed himself, before Chicago became the house band for every elevator, dentist office, and hold button in America. They were tight. Their lyrics had a bite. It was an entirely different band. And, man...

They had horns.

I feel so much better now.

Re: Towards A Virtual Williamsburg!

I'm sure the decrease has nothing to do with the neighborhood being flooded by police with cameras.

It blew me away, I like to get a sense of the crowd, and normally you can from the stories and the reactions, but that minute listening to these, well let's say, younger versions of Atticus, told me i would not be able to pitch a story in any way that would capture these people. It was like walking down a street in Paris and trying to find something using my High School French. even if someone did get what I was saying, they'd pretend they didn't. and my daughter is moving there, and may end up with one of these guys (not that Atticus wouldn't make a fine SIL).

Apropos of this development for a band, a few weeks ago I was traveling on small European cruise ship and was shocked when Wilco's "You and I" was played on the ship's sound system near the (empty) pool while we got underway. Also on the playlist were songs like Billy Joel's "Just the Way You Are." How did this happen to Wilco? Was it the VW commercials?

Wilco has always had a lot of the easy listening in their wheelhouse. It's just that Tweedy did a really good job of selling it as being hipster ironic cutesy. In fact, Jeff just likes a lot of simple rhyme-y stuff that they managed to offset with a lot of weird shit.

strange shit right here- Thurgreed was trying to get the two of us to take on MJ the next year on the Star Wars show but the night before the contest I backed out. I realized I had never seen T pass the ball, ever, and I knew MJ would pick up on that.

that was about Brooklyn compared to Manhattan. The moth was simply the vehicle.
