You're right about the entry cost. When I used the word replacement, I was thinking more of the next time she needs a new set of tires. Also, if you look around, you can often find deals for four regular tires that are almost competitive with one runflat.

When last shopping for Odyssey minivans, this fact, combined with the fact that the special TPMS rubber can only be installed with specialized tire mounting hardware at a Honda dealership and certain select Michelin retailers, made the decision not to get the ultralux trim package, which already carried Honda's $5,500 premium sticker, oh so easy.

We switched out on our Mini and I don't recall it requiring new wheels. Of course, that was way back in 2007.

Honda had a proprietary wheel/tire system that they were sued over it was so bad. Generally you can replace runflats with regular tires no problem.
