I got one for Housing Works Bookstore next week about playing basketball with younger guys as I aged and how I almost really hurt Olympic skater Todd Eldridge.

Apparently in child psychology it is gauche to apply such terms to a minor. Instead you say "pre-psychopathic," apparently because a goodly number of children are technically psychopaths in the DSM-IV diagnostic sense but most of them grow out of it.

Not calling on Sebby to answer a rhetorical question here, but the libertarians I want to punch in the nuts are the ones who don't have the first clue what state and local governments do. It's all fun and games when it's about dismantling federal programs left and right, but no one seems to know what to do with the sick and dying, other than bringing back the Tarpeian Rock.

The way to convince a libertarian he is an idiot is to punch him in his face and take his wallet.

"Psychopath" is completely out of the DSM as a diagnostic label, as is the case with the alternate label "sociopath." Just because committees of psychologists can't agree on labels doesn't mean the condition doesn't exist, unfortunately.

FWIW, my client, an adult, claims to have "oppositional defiant disorder" which is squarely a juvenile diagnosis and also effectively baby psychopathy.

For better or worse, I have learned a fair amount about personality/character disorder (even the broad category names are still controversial) in the past year. One of the things that I've learned about is that there is a fairly significant population of "subcriminal" psychopaths and some of them wear the title with pride. Of course, they also have communities on the Internet!

ETA: the "pre" part of the diagnosis, I believe, has to do with the hope/belief that therapy and such may still have positive effect whereas the adult diagnosis has no known "cure" and adult psychopaths are effectively incorrigible.

Have you read Jon Ronson's Psycopath Test? Audiobook, with his unique voice, is highly entertaining.

I haven't read that book; thanks for the recommendation.

I sincerely hope this is true. I teach (as a volunteer) music to 235 first- through eighth-grade students at a school for highly gifted kids, and there are one or two sociopaths in each grade, it seems. A couple of them make me nervous.

Well I work at a firm with quite a few superlawyers. A couple of them make me nervous too.

I heard of a pediatrician who described all his patients as remorseless psychopathic dwarves -- with good prognoses.

RT, you should check for cheap flights to TCOTU today, because Jets/Texans tickets can be had for $36.

There will be several pumpkins in attendance. Expect beer sales to stop by kickoff.

Think that's bad? There are nearly 13,000 tickets for Thanksgiving night hosting the Pats. That's nearly 1/4 of the stadium.

Re: Stuck on Repeats

Just thought I would stop by and say hello. I do not exactly recall the last time I was here, but I couldn't remember my user name, and my last PMs are from some deleted user I do not recall in 2006, so I suppose it has been a while. Hope everyone is doing well. My brief review of the politics board indicates not much has changed here, but perhaps PLF has a different princess kitty avatar.
