There is lots of shit that doesn't surprise me that pisses me off.

But I'm glad St. Patrick's day is on Saturday this year. I can avoid the whole thing.

Am I the only person who doesn't enjoy live jazz? I walked into a bar last night with two friends and we were surprised to find a live jazz performance being featured. My two friends seemed to think this was our lucky night, and I wanted to walk out back into the freezing rain and try to find a bar where I wouldn't have to pretend to listen, and then clap politely after every "number."

 | Depends on the quality of the jazz and whether that was something I wanted to do that night. But I'm with you on not wanting to stumble on it accidently.

Of course, there is a jazz club that is supposed to be really good about three blocks from my house and I haven't ever been there, so I guess I don't really like to plan for it either.

As for Top Chef, Paul seems good, but not overwhelmingly good. Chris Jones seemed creative but absent-minding and lacking in execution. I liked Ty-Lor.

Otherwise, no one seems impressive, and I really dislike Sarah. |

And when it's particularly bad, it's extra loud.

No real personalities. It seemed like no one knew what they were doing. Only really fun episode food-wise was the evil queen dinner.

Only upside is that they just opened a Houston location of Uchi this week, and Paul does actually seem like he knows what the hell he's doing. Here's hoping Tyson Cole can hire Paul's equivilant in the Houston restaurant. So far the pre-press for Uchi-Houston has been outstanding. Reviews here and here , plus my sister went to one of the soft opening dinners a week or so ago and said it was really awesome.

 | The Dakota is a fantastic club. I have seen some of the best shows I have ever seen in any genre there (including when it was in St. Paul). But I am a jazz fan. But I agree that it is not something you necessarily want to stumble upon accidently. But you can say that about anything. I am also a "rock" fan, but if I randomly went to clubs where "rock" bands were playing, 99% of the time, I would get up and leave.

 | I'd rather live jazz than a bad cover band. Jazz can be overlooked. You can usually talk over jazz. Try talking over some group cranked to 11, mangling "Should I Stay or Should I Go?" Or an impossibly cute Starbucks-music duet playing Dylan tunes in strange arrangements.

He should spend more time there instead of trying to fix other restaurants. Eat was very much not worth the drive.
