Confirmation?

And for my 4th consecutive post....

Someone on the old board is reporting that "Peter Jarvis at Stoel Rives announced today that he will be leaving Stoel to open the Portland/Pacific Northwest office of Hinshaw & Culbertson."

True? Any additional insight? If true, any idea how many Stoel associates will go with Jarvis? And, most importantly: any idea what Hinshaw will pay?

Law.com associate survey

Posted by Ollie 10/03

Regional results are here: http://www.law.com/special/professio...ty_chart.shtml

Nice of them to include all of one Portland firm. And interesting that said Portland firm finished dead last in the survey of Seattle firms (not surprising to see DWT first, as their associates seem to have convinced themselves that they've got a great shop; I'm not convinced).

Based on the Stoel associates (past and present) I've known, I'm guessing they would'nt have been no. 1 in Portland if there was any competition at all.

Layoffs, anyone?

Heard unconfirmed reports that Bullivant has recently let people go in Portland. Can anybody confirm? Feel free to PM me if you actually read this and know something but don't want to post.

Heller, VLG?

A query from a poster who wishes to remain anon; any thoughts?

What is Heller Ehrman's reputation in Seattle? What is/was Venture Law Group's?

A new year

And another chance for all you eager northwesterners to post something; anything; hell, even Penske's Seattle-based socks are welcome at this point.

Any year-end bonus news out there? Feel free to pm me if you want me to post any confidential info.

PNW Native, you in da house? Feel free to post here as much as you please. Your not likely to get flamed. Or to get any response at all, for that matter. But hey, give it a try.

Love, Ollie

I'm baaack. I haven't been pissed the whole time, just really busy at work. Today I finally got my portion of the brief turned in on my current case. Also got good news on another project so I'm feeling really good this evening. So, what do I do?!? Hit the boards. Call me stupid. (all together now - 'hi stupid')

Anyway, I read through most of the posts on this forum (took all of about 4 minutes) to get a feel for the place. There doesn't seem to be a theme. Is there any unwritten 'rule' about verboten subjects? I mean generally within the bounds of semi-civilized society. For example, given the other forums on the board, if I post a message about law school, or politics, kids, etc. is it likely someone will respond 'take it to the ....' forum?

I don't work in a firm, I'm strictly non-profit and work out of my house. I read the posts about local Seattle firms out of morbid curiosity but don't expect me to post any info about local firms.

Anyway, this message is long enough. I'll stop now.

My Little Board

Welcome, NWNative. You're unlikely to be run off here. Then again, you're unlikely to get any responses either. But feel free to give it a shot.

In theory, this board is, first and foremost, about gettin' paid in Seattle and Portland (and even in Tacoma, Spokane, Bend, Eugene, etc.). Secondarily, it's about PacNW life in general: housing issues, beer, wine, where to get the first Copper River salmon of the year, etc. I don't consider anything "off-topic" at this point. So feel free to post anything you want. Just don't be surprised by the deafening silence that meets you.

Neil Young lyric. That, and it generally beats the office.

Sorry, I can't help out with info there either. Had a case recently where we thought we'd be the "substantially prevailing plaintiff" but then lost bigtime. Appeal has been filed.

Preliminary report is that a grant may come through but haven't gotten final word on that yet.

OTOH it's not as pathetic as it sounds. I had a very successful career prior to LS so I'm financially secure and spouse works. I really LOVE what I do; I look forward to work every day. Also, there may be an adjunct teaching gig fall semester for pocket change. The money will come eventually.

Anyone need a RCRA specialist (especially Sub. C) to consult?

I saw CSN at the Gorge a couple years ago but without Neil.

Yes is coming to EMP and the Key Arena in April. Tix on sale (for EMP) tomorrow.

Between LS and other commitments I haven't gotten out much for the past few years.

Ray Charles

OK, so Ollie's asleep at the wheel. News about Seattle has gone unposted. Slacker.

Ray Charles, The Genius of Soul, who died yesterday of liver disease at his Beverly Hills home at the age of 73, began his career in Seattle when he was just 17.
The blind singer-pianist lived here only three years, from 1948 to '50, but he always acknowledged that the city, its musicians and its welcoming atmosphere helped shape his groundbreaking musical style and his philosophy of life.

"Seattle is the town where I made my first record. And if you ever want to say where I got my start, you have to say that. Because that was the thing that got me known."

He was referring to his first single, "Confession Blues."

I can't believe I didn't know this already.
