the commercial highways that would have visitors travelling on them- not the expressways.

these are neighborhoods full of tight streets and alleys, and include shops and homes. shop owners near touristy places were looking forward to some increased business and suddenly, a wall separated them from where people might be.

if one walked (and I did) there were doors back into the hutongs. the restaurants there were the only places they kept the "normal" menus ARF! ARF!

Did I miss the discussion this morning, or was Letterman's reveal about the extortion and sexing of his staff pretty surreal? The clips made it sound like the audience thought it was a gag until close to the end, and then they applauded like it was the best joke ever. If you're in the audience, how can you react with applause for anyone involved?

I think the extortionist should have done better homework on the person he wanted to extort. After all of Letterman's prior experience with crazies, he probably has the Manhattan DA's office on speed dial.

What's the point? It's not like the media won't be able to find the poor parts of town if they want to do a story on that. And presumably the olympic venues won't be built right next to those parts of town.
