 Why do people think situps will make their stomach look ripped?  A healthy diet and cardio is the only thing that will allow you to see your abs.

 Yep.  For women, situps actually tend to make the waist thicker.  I think core work (not situps or ab workouts) and general good posture make for a much more pleasing female physique.  And, of course, no ab/core work will make a difference whatsoever if there is a layer of fat over it.  Cardio with a strong core is the best ab workout, IMHO.  I am doing a core workout right now as I sit at my desk.  I haven't done a situp in years.  And I have enviable abs.
I also am perplexed when I see people who want to lose 30+ pounds working on the stability ball.  ??????  What tiny muscle are you trying to define, and how are we going to see it through the adipose tissue?  CARDIO my friends.
