True enough. I don't think that's what the people who practice Eastern Medicine would give as the reason for the efficacy of acupuncture. The sedating effect was a theory advanced as an explanation for why acupuncture might still be helpful in relieving whatever ailment (I can't remember what it was now) the people in that study had, notwithstanding that the needles were placed in the wrong spot for that particular ailment.
