I once favored a single malt called Loch Dhu. It was thick and actually black, and slave or Less mocked me for liking it, BUT I am no weak sock, so I admit to this day that I loved it. Then it lost its US distribution and can't seem to get picked up. When I was last in Japan a very happy circumstance was finding it in a liquor store. I did not find it in China though.
so my point is, never assume any imported liquor will always be there. do not waste it, nor take for granted that it will be there tomorrow.

Not just not imported to the US, not made any more.

You need nap, comrade -- perhaps you take little rest on my office love seat? Is leather!

Sorry, Vadim. I've heard where that thing's been.

Oh, Lizard Person, you such a kidder! My loveseat from Jennifer Covertibles feels quite nicely, as you know truthfully.
Anyway, I am looking here for old friend, Woman of the Large White Northern Steppes -- perhaps group can help me? We used to work together in olden days when she came to Novo York as political refugee from purges in Saskatoon. We shared office and love of borscht, and she used to like to hear me whisper ways to hide rubles to Uncle Sergei on telephone.
Is such woman here?

FWIW, let's assume 20% is a stretch. Let's also assume that I'm looking above the $417,000* conforming loan rate. Do banks even let people piggyback anymore?

Banks will let you piggyback, but it's much, much tougher to do these days. I've asked around a bit, and most, if not all, of the places want 20% down. One place would agree to 15% down, but was limited in how much they would actually lend. (Part of the problem is that we're interested in upgrading to a McMansion within easy commuting distance.)

I have heard tell that the lads from the Scotch malt whiskey society smuggle in hard to get single malts under their kilts. Apparently the TSA people have an aversion to old hairy low hangin free ballin scotch nuts.

Nah, it still can be had, through the aftermarket. There's some on eBay, and also here--for the low, low price of 190 pounds per bottle, shipping included.

Maybe? I'll need a retainer to run the conflicts check before I get started.

The other way to think of it is that you want to find every way you can to drink it now before something happens - straight, in your hot cocoa, over your morning oats....
