A typical virus that attacks Outlooks spreads more quickly by using one level of abstraction. It infects your computer, then sends out an e-mail to everyone in your address book. But instead of making it look like it came from you, it spoofs the headers so that it looks like the e-mail comes from somebody else in the mailing list. So the guy got the mail from somebody who has both his work and home e-mail addresses.

I was once threatened by opposing counsel with sanctions for sending his client an e-mail with a virus in it. Turns out my dumb-ass client got infected and had both my e-mail address and his former business partner's in his address book.
