Everyone keeps telling me how much I'm missing out by not watching soccer. Okay. Lots of people around the world love it. But why should I watch if you haven't yet figured out how to make it work?

And it's not like basketball or football where they tweak the rules here and there to try to improve it. Soccer has real problems. Not scoring goals is by-product of the problem. The problem is that it is way to easy to have the game end in a tie. And because it's so hard to score goals, it's not an easy fix. It's a fundamental problem. But I'm not going to sit around and watch games day in and day out when such a high percentage of them will end in ties. And when a team goes up, it's an organized game of "keep away" until the ref decides that the game is over.

I'm not saying soccer isn't exciting. I've watched many games that were fantastic. And like baseball and hockey, when it's an important game and the defense is good and the scoring is low, the excitement and anticipation levels rise. But the fundamental problem needs to be addressed.

I think the field should be considerably smaller.
