No kidding. I saw this story the other day. What an idiotic thing to say, even if he was "joking". At least the mother and the kid seem to have taken it in stride.
What I found even more offensive was later in the article, where it mentioned that there was an assemblyman who was ready to raise a stink because he
assumed that the little girl was black, and then quickly dropped it once he learned she wasn't. As if that should make one bit of difference in the matter.
