Wrong. It all depends on the individual. The total cost of a policy for a 30 year old healthy single non-smoking male is cheaper as an individual policy than what his employer and he pay together.
Is $300 how much you pay a month for your plan or is that the total cost? Is it an HMO or a PPO? If it isn't outable, what company is it through?
