He doesn't particularly seem to favor either candidate, but by releasing a tape just days before the election, maybe he's hoping to take credit no matter who wins. If he seemed to be trying to produce a particular result, surely it would backfire (i.e., a bin Laden tape attacking either candidate would have the contrary effect).
