Someone here the other day was extolling Coldplay, and "Clocks" in particular. Well, I heard the song last night and was struck by how weak it is. Coldplay is this decade's Smiths. Plodding, monotonal music for stoners, those on downers, or the anti-depressant crowd. Pink Floyd without the range, skill, ability or virtuosity. A radio station here sent me an e-mail about how they are giving away tickets to the show; I sent them one back saying that's not good enough - they would have to pay me.

That was me, and while I don't disagree that music would be better off without Coldplay, I stand by my earlier post regarding the annoying infectiousness of "Clocks." Just writing about the song puts that fucking piano line back in my head. Its like "Hey Ya" - one of those tunes that gets inthe grey matter like a bad sinus infection and just won't leave. You're mistaking my extolling the song's catchiness for a compliment on its quality. Its a lousy dumb little up-and-down-the-scales repetitive melody. Its the oposite of creative and an affront to everything good music should be...
... but I still can't get the fucker out of my head.
