Good flight attendants will offer to make a switch, and will do the asking. And they have a knack for asking the people who don't mind -- I would estimate that one third of the time I fly alone, I get asked by one of them to move, and I never mind. (It's been
away from, but never
to a middle seat, fyi.)
Most of the seats are the same to me -- I guess that just they know not to ask the frequent fliers who use their Obsidian Medallion Class status to get just to get that coveted seat behind the exit row, or whatever.
