Starbucks must be banking on the theory that the people who buy its coffee don't just need coffee, they need Starbucks coffee, which packs a higher caffeine punch than many competitors. The Wall Street Journal earlier this year sent samples of coffee from Starbucks, 7-Eleven, and Dunkin' Donuts to Central Analytical Laboratories. The lab reported that a 16-ounce Starbucks house blend coffee contained 223 milligrams of caffeine, compared with 174 and 141 milligrams in comparable amounts of Dunkin' Donuts and 7-Eleven coffee, respectively. According to the Journal, the average Starbucks coffee drink contains 320 milligrams of caffeine. (This chart from the Center for Science in the Public Interest shows different measurement levels, including the scary finding that a 16-ounce Starbucks grande has nearly three times as much caffeine as a No-Doz.)
Fine. You've made Sebby look the fool. What are you going to do for your next trick? Prove that NFH is materialistic?

Nothing against Sebby. Just a public service announcement from your average bandaided-nipple FBoy.

Last Straw

Why must the deli people give me straws with my bottles of water and coke? Who the fuck drinks either with a motherfucking straw after age five? I have a fucking collection of straws next to my desk now... Straws are for fountain sodas, not a 20 ounce coke or a bottle of fucking Pellegrino. What kind of person would demand a straw for such things?

You should be fucking thankful that you have a deli -- a deli !! oh, a deli -- where the person gives you anything but the fucking drink, rather than making you go get your own drink, food, sugar, cream, napkin, straw, salt, pepper, condiments, bag, and bring it to them so they can do you the honor of charging you too much for it. You ingrate.

And I use straws. They make me feel like a kid again, plus, I spill when I try to drink straight out of the bottle.

When you come from the land of unwrapped straws, the idea of a straw wrapped in paper is nutty enough, not to mention the fact that they are handed out with abandon.

Rubbish. I'm not one to quibble with facts. Clearly, there is something to the myth. BUT, like all stats, it depends a lot on which Starbucks you're visiting, how close to the bottom of the pot your cup came from, etc...

Second, were that true, I'd have died years ago. I had a three grande habit at one point. Granted, they say the body acclimates to caffeine quickly and can injest massive doses if conditioned to do so, but you've just stated that I had the equivalent of nine No-Dozes a day.

And if its based on govt stats, it doesn't apply to me. According to the govt, I'm dead (along w/most of this board).

How nutty is the idea of keeping a collection of unwanted straws on one's desk?

I used to work for a cokehead. But I guess the straws were wanted in his case.

Yesterday I saw two wheelchair-bound men get into a fight and knock each other out of their chairs. It was among the funnier things I have seen. They continued to yell at each other and flail about as passers-by helped them back into their respective chairs. Police were involved, but then my bus left so I missed the ending.
