If I had to choose between smarmy and squicky,* I'd go with smarmy. Squicky tends to include some overtly sexual reference, like, "you seem like the kind of person who wouldn't blab to the whole office about how I fucked you until you gaped like that Roman empress in the fucking contest" or something. Squicky and icky kind of cause a shudder of horror, and smarmy etc. are just a nose wrinkle and a frown, and maybe a head drawn back. Or raised eyebrows. Or an eye roll. Anyway, no shuddering, no nausea. Once you hit the nausea/shudder buttons, you are in the realm of squicky.
