You just wipe the snot off the pointy ends of that nose-boomerang. Easy-peasy.
As for the dog, I think we're all focussed on the wrong issue.
- Man: I've got good news and bad news.
Dog: What's the good news?
Man: You're getting a two-pronged hook shoved through your upper lip with a big steel cable attached. And I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance.
Dog: . . . good lord . . . what's the bad news?
Man: We're gonna use the cable to drag your sorry dog ass behind our boat for shark bait.
Dog: Paigow! Paigooooooooooooow!!!!!!!!!!

If you don't want to see the photgraph again, along with snopes.com's mainly unhelpful analysis of the truth or falsity of the shark-bait stories, don't click here.

It's on the internet, it has to be true, no?

NaNoWriMo
I know a few people who did this last year, and really enjoyed the process. National Novel Writing Month. I'm thinking about doing it this year, though I haven't even started thinking about what to write about :
Quote:
National Novel Writing Month is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing. Participants begin writing November 1. The goal is to write a 175-page (50,000-word) novel by midnight, November 30.
Valuing enthusiasm and perseverance over painstaking craft, NaNoWriMo is a novel-writing program for everyone who has thought fleetingly about writing a novel but has been scared away by the time and effort involved.
Because of the limited writing window, the ONLY thing that matters in NaNoWriMo is output. It's all about quantity, not quality. The kamikaze approach forces you to lower your expectations, take risks, and write on the fly.
Make no mistake: You will be writing a lot of crap. And that's a good thing. By forcing yourself to write so intensely, you are giving yourself permission to make mistakes. To forgo the endless tweaking and editing and just create. To build without tearing down.
As you spend November writing, you can draw comfort from the fact that, all around the world, other National Novel Writing Month participants are going through the same joys and sorrows of producing the Great Frantic Novel. Wrimos meet throughout the month to offer encouragement, commiseration, and -- when the thing is done -- the kind of raucous celebrations that tend to frighten animals and small children.
In 2004, we had over 42,000 participants. Nearly 6000 of them crossed the 50k finish line by the midnight deadline, entering into the annals of NaNoWriMo superstardom forever. They started the month as auto mechanics, out-of-work actors, and middle school English teachers. They walked away novelists.

If anyone else is interested, I can start a separate thread for support through the process. You have a little less than a month to think about it. Everyone I know who did it last year felt that they accomplished something, even if that something was crap on the first go round. Apparently a few novels have been published that started in NaNoWriMo.

I'm in. I'll even dare to email the results to any other participants willing to reciprocate.

A few out of 42,000? I like those odds.

I'm also in. My novel will be the phrase "I'm a Prettly Little Flower" repeasted 10,000 times in different color fonts.

I'll buy your book if you can convince me that all 10,000 color fonts are different.

This promises to be the very gayest of the gay-novels-written-in-a-month genre. I look forward to wrapping my cheesesteaks in it.

A book with only 5 words shouldn't have typos.

Baseball Playoffs
A la str8, I will post my bets because I know you all care.
No individual game bets yet, but I bet the Astros to win their series at -120 and the ChiSox to win theirs at +125.
P.S. I think ltl and Penske have written 175,000 words in a month on this site alone. Of course, there is no narrative, but let's not be picky.
