TM, no one thinks they need that much caffeine in any absolute sense -- I think they just keep upping the dosage. I usually drink a 12 oz coffee in the a.m., and none in the p.m. If I'm particularly beat, I'll get a 16 oz in the a.m., or a 12 oz in the p.m. I make that the exception rather than the rule because I don't want to get hooked, but if you're not paying attention all of a sudden you're getting a vente every three hours and things have turned ugly.

The net effect of drinking a caffeinated beverage or alcoholic beverage cannot be less water in your system, or the human race would have died out long ago when people drank ale all the time, and a lot of people around now would be dried out husks because all they drink are caffeinated soft drinks. I think they are maybe less hydrating than water. Big whoop.
I like the passion iced tea and the green iced teas at starbucks. They are much cheaper than the lattes. I get them unsweetened.
I never really drank coffee -- other than very occasionally with dessert, at nice restaurants -- until I started drinking lattes. I will drink cafe au lait (which I used to think was spelled cafe ole!) as well. I don't even particularly like coffee with cream. I like it very very milky.
My choices are the one-off place down the street, Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, and Starbucks. The one-off place down the street is either OK or it tastes like absolute crap. I generally don't like CB&TL. So Starbucks it is.
