I'm fairly certain she was fighting the typo, not the hypo. Ever since she got her bobs reduced, she's been thinking more critically.

Chip timing actually allows non-elites to compete against elites, just like our Arien did. I don't think chip timing solves any of the problems; I was just commenting on Hank's post that the non-elites "lose 10 seconds" because a later start. They don't.

I think all of the time points are open and obvious (and labeled as such).
But if they don't monitor everybody then it's really only a race for the folks they monitor, right? Because everyone else is going to be suspect. I don't see how corrals solve that problem. The only difference in Boston is that they separate the elites by 100 meters or so, instead of simply putting the top runners at the front of a mass of people (where they got run over by Coltranes of old). Chips just make it feasible to monitor everyone, but they don't change the corrals/staggered start/jostling problem.

I'm not sure which problem we're talking about anymore.

I think you have to delete your account. And then answer three riddles to confirm. Just make sure you know the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow first.

I'm at the point where I've become convinced the best thing for him to do is to cut his dick off, since he clearly hasn't learned to handle it yet, and if he can't handle it by his age, he probably won't ever learn.

Me either, but my question was what chip timing solves. Nothing, really. If elites want a stagger because a corral doesn't prevent jostling, then you run into the PLF concern of time trial versus race. Chips don't change anything about that--all they do is (a) monitor cheating and (b) provide non-elite runners starting back in the pack with a "real" time. But if you use chip time for all runners, then it becomes a time trial and no one knows who's really in the lead.

Note that once again, I, with my porn-and-lotion prescription, am by far the more humane.

Sheesh.
I think he should ask some of her friends at work what they think he should do. Via email.

I predict he's a BabydAdder before the close of 2009.

I know a guy (he's the youngest American to run a marathon on all seven -- yes, seven -- continents) who ran a marathon in Buenos Aires wearing some totally ugly getup from the Antarctica marathon. I think it was a denim shirt or something equally un-runner-like. Anyway, at the start of that marathon, he sprinted ahead with the elites, and was actually ahead for about 90 seconds. The Kenyans/Moroccans/other-really-good-runners were all looking at each other quizzically wondering who the F he was.

Hilarity (naturally) ensued.

Good times, good times.

My fil and his partner have also done this, but they are, admittedly, old farts. Having achieved that goal, they now focus on new-to-them marathons, only repeating their home city's marathon, which they have run every year since it started. This year they ran an unsupported marathon in Mongolia, and a couple of years ago they ran the Great Wall marathon on my fil's 67th birthday. Crazy old farts.

See, I don't know about that. I mean, there are pluses and minuses to cutting one's dick off. It's true the problem at hand will become moot. But then you have the whole not having a dick thing. I know that would make me anxious.

And none of this addresses the "How" of the thing. Do you go with a paring knife or serrated edge? Scissors? Cleaver? How much Wild Turkey should one ingest in advance? Or should it be Oxycontin?

Should you have someone else cut it off for you? Maybe. But who? You can't just ask a friend at work. That could lead to some really uncomfortable situations.

So I don't think you can just go around willy-nilly suggesting Adder cut his dick off. There's a lot more to it than that. These things have to be vetted first.

I had an account until recently. I deleted and haven't regretted it for 1 minute!
