Yes, please forward. My new year's resolution for 2009 is to befriend the lonely and uplift humanity in the process. she could be my first subject. so to speak. Also, "Karin" with an "i" seems much more continental, so to speak, than "Karen", and I am nothing if not continental in my sensibilities, iykwim.
ciao, P

And all the boys in the band know how to get down.
To those who mock me for my love of music by chicks with guitars, watch (and listen to) this and bite me.*
Thank you to Gawker commenter and Tumblr-er KarenUhOh for the reminder.
*What's that? You only mock me for my love of music with literate yet emotionally-intense lyrics sung softly by granola-eating chicks, a/k/a what Flower called something like "Acoustic Estrogen"? Uh, nevermind.

So.....as far as chicks with guitars, you think this one compares how with Raitt, Chapman (Tracy) and Tedeschi?
(Uh oh. A female musician thread.)

That is a seriously infectious tune.
Good to see you're off that Antigone Rising phase.

We stand just a little too close.

Apples, oranges, etc. I don't think that they are directly comparable -- all four are in different musical genres.
That said, I love Bonnie Raitt, like Tracy Chapman, and am not a huge blues fan, so I've heard of Susan Tedeschi, but don't really know much about her stuff.
Translation for Sebby:
Sleater-Kinney approximates AC-DC
Bonnie Raitt approximates the Allman Brothers
Tracy Chapman approximates Harry Chapin (or maybe Cat Stevens)
Susan Tedeschi approximates any band which used The Tower of Power, NTTAWWT

Re: Congratulations Slave and Catrin!!!
Thank you all for the facebook protocol responses.
I am facebook friends with guys I have dated and my ex The OddMan, so it feels weird to only stalk the new man without actually being his friend.
The longer we date, the weirder it feels. Perhaps we need to include a facebook provision in "the conversation."

I agree with all of this except I would replace "AC-DC" with "The Bangles" or "The Go Go's".

Worst scenario, you friend him, you break up and he goes cyber-psycho then you just create a new facebook persona. That's how I ditched Hank on MySpace.
Also, I may know a good source for previously used SSNs, if you are ever in the market.

If you don't mean "befriend" and "humanity" literally, the lonely had better buy "protection."

I should have noted that I was trying to place how I viewed the chick artists within the Sebby Hierarchy of Music. In the SHM, AC-DC is good-time rock and roll, nice hooks, guitar riffs, and fun. Thus, the comparison of SK to them.
And I am a huge fan of both The Bangles and The Go-Go's. In fact, I love The Go-Go’s. I bought Beauty and the Beat (on vinyl, natch) when it was new on the recommendation of The Punk Rock Girl, and she and I saw them in concert a few times. (We both preferred Jane to Belinda, btw.)
That being said, The Bangles and The Go-Go's are a little pop-ier than SK (yes, I am aware of the punk origins of The Go-Go's), so I don't agree with your characterization.
FWIW, in the SHM, I would say that The Go-Go's approximate Triumph. Fight the good fight, indeed, with the magic power.

Tracy Chapman doesn't deserve that much contempt.
The Raitt/Allmans thing is heresy.

Lude? Was that something the kids used to do in the days of Friendster?

Time, time, time; see what's become of me.

In my defense, I was a young man, and they were very photogenic. FWIW, I also dug Jami Gertz in "Less Than Zero" (the Bangles did a pretty decent cover of "Hazy Shade of Winter" for the soundtrack).
