Yes. Apparently it looked like a controlled landing and people are being helped off on those blow up slides (remove all highheeled shoes and leave your belongings behind) that I previously thought were useless because we'd all be dead anyway. I guess not.

News said they did a controlled landing at possibly 120 mph. Is that even possibly without it flipping and tearing apart? The plane seems to be in relatively good condition.

Why? Usually the worst that happens is you get stranded on some south Pacific island in an odd timewarp.

That's about the speed of a landing on a runway. Which obviously doesn't have waves, boats, and buoys. But I would think if it were controlled a pilot might avoid a flip.

Until recently (like, 6 months ago), I didn't have call waiting on my phone in the sticks. In the city, I still don't. I figure that if it's important enough, whoever it is will call back.
But anyway, a friend called and got the busy signal, and when he finally got through, he said, "Damn, that's OLD SCHOOL!" I hadn't realized how retro I was.

And you grow a really long beard and make friends with a volleyball.
It's the beard that really deters me.

My father (a pilot) always says that it's a good landing if all the passengers survive and a great landing if the plane can fly again.
I'd say this pilot made one hell of a good landing.

Mostly I have an answering machine because I have a home phone line (for some reason) and don't want to pay for voicemail. Probably should just get rid of the phone though.

Is it too soon?
Is it too soon to speculate that the plane crash might have been the work of the flying religious lunatic Osama Bird Laden?

When I say my father is a pilot, I do not mean as a profession.

Among other things, yes, Richard Branson is a pilot.

As was Steve Fossett. I see B'nB's dad more in that model.
