Because in a progressive anti-biased post-partisan world that celebrates diversity, we are accepting and open minded of other cultures and their ways, even if those ways are not the same in appeal to us, and to the extent that there is something socially unacceptable about those ways we offer constructive criticism in a manner that allows them to maintain their dignity.

In a truly socially just world, that rule applies even to rural southerners who like country music, despite our knee jerk impulses to the contrary.

Fugee, always keep the good stuff in the back. These so-called sophisticates won't get it. Given them Jed and Jethro, a shot of rotgut, tell them the old one about voices and the radio, let 'em laugh and take their money, then come sit in the back with me and we'll get out the good stuff and have a nice, long laugh at their expense. And play some checkers.

Because nothing serves as a better reminder to simplify than a piece of wood with a country border placed on your favorite display case or kitchen hutch.
Similarly, I was dragged into a seaside tschotske store in Southern California this week, which for whatever reason had a New England-y cottage feel to it.

My favorite item was a small hangable sign that read, "grow, dammit". Because of the store's Northeastern theme, and this sign's combination of garden themes, profanity, and hideous punctuation, naturally I thought of Flinty.

Hey Hank!

Hope you've got your reservations for Zoorotica. Nothing says "I love you" like watching zoo animals getting busy.

I don't know about going. Last time I went home to mom and dad's farm all day long the female goats bugged me about why Penske hasn't been around lately.

But I suppose zoo animals would be safe?

Look man, I'm sorry, I tried. But you just don't float my boat, so to speak, and no amount of signage is going to help.

Mamby-pamby moral relativism, bleeding-heart (molly) coddling and general wishy-washy-ness. This is NOT how I was told the corner office would roll in the etc. etc.

Boycott Mazda

Cuz they're tools:
Quote:
At the behest of a sponsor, Michael Phelps has recorded a video apology to the people of China, expressing his remorse over the recently published pictures of him using a marijuana pipe and thanking them for their support and forgiveness.

The 52-second video has been posted on several Web sites in China, and one major Chinese newspaper said the video had been sent directly from the Japanese auto company Mazda, which last month signed Phelps to an endorsement deal believed to be worth more than a million dollars. Phelps was signed to promote Mazda cars in China after his record-breaking eight-gold-medal performance at the Beijing Olympics last summer.

If only we had a correspondent who had recently traveled to this strange land to give us insight into their culture. If only.

Why?

That was almost as bad as a Lil Wayne song.
