Evanston and Rosemont are as close as it gets. It would make a killing, but I don't think they're flexible on the drive-thru.

Chicago
Starting this weekend, I'll be in Chicago (North Loop) for several days. Any FBers who are around and can connect, please shoot me a PM. I may even try a Manny's sandwich.

Does anyone else get a contact high watching Ace of Cakes? It makes me ridiculously happy that a group of potheads got their own cooking show.

I had a oyster poboy from BBs a few nights ago, and it was as good as Robb Walsh (our local celebrity food critic) said it was. The oysters were perfectly cooked, and the sandwich was constructed with a good lettuce/tomato/dressing to oyster to bread ratio. I couldn't eat the whole thing, though, because I had also to try the gumbo while I was over there. The gumbo wasn't as good as the one over at Goode Company, but none of them are as good as my mama's.

Pastrami
From Kenny & Zuke's, named by Bon Appetit last year as one of the 10 best sandwich shops in the country. It's actually a deli, but they're opening a sandwiches-only joint in my neighborhood any day now. That's their pastrami on the bottom layer. It is divine.

Big 2. This whole thread had me thinking about heading over for lunch. But it's a bit of a hike from my shop. And it was hailing a few minutes ago. So maybe not.
And I'm no bialy expert, but GGG, should you ever find yourself in our neck o' the woods, you should give it a try.

The fiancee looks to have the winner, at least by looks. Bet you get that a lot though... I meant the sandwich.
Since I am being summoned to the grilled cheesetastic splendor of Beechwood, I may need to hit the RibEye burger:

Have ya'll ever heard of Outstanding in the Field? Local chefs prepare a five star meal at a farm or ranch where most of the food comes from. My brother couldn't get in last year, so he volunteered to be a waiter for the event instead, and said it was a lot of fun, with excellent, excellent food.
It's all over the country, and it's pricey, but everything I've heard about it is quite positive.

I heard some people on the PB were thinking of getting together in Chicago, but they probably decided not to include you.

Okay.... we are fast approaching the point where I'm going to hunt you all down and kill you. I ate a fucking salad for lunch -- there are no good sandwich shops anywhere near here (except for Taylor's Automatic Refresher, which has a killer ahi-tuna burger.... but the line is insanely long by 11:45.)

Best Sandwich Poll:
My favorite is Katz's pastrami on rye with swiss. Each sandwich is always as fresh as can be and it is quite simply one of the best things I've ever eaten. The pastrami is like butter, baby.

Steak, American, without from Dalessandro's Steaks.
Runner up is the turkey sandwich from Cafe Phillips in DC.

If it is any consolation, I had a sandwich on a baguette. I don't know what I was thinking ordering a sandwich on a baguette. Worst fucking sandwich bread ever.
