Last Saturday, I had occasion to cook about 40 pounds of bacon for a Bacon and Chocolate Cake breakfast at Burning Flipside. Until this experience, I had no idea how different the varieties of bacon really were in terms of cooking time, amount of grease produced, taste, and general quality. Thick cut bacon took about four times as long to cut as thin sliced. Low sodium bacon should be banned from the shelves. Pre-cooked bacon is a crime against humanity.

I managed to escape with only one grease burn, and the bacon (and, needless to say, chocolate cake) was devoured by the masses. I think we had something like 150 pounds of bacon to go through, and we made it through a good 100 in two hours.

I bet I am the only one here to have been hit by an F Market Muni car. My fault. Did a flip/roll, bounced up, and walked off. Other than delayed adrenaline and a scuffed elbow, no damage. Looking back, though, I should have claimed soft tissue injury, hired Pony, and retired.

If only I'd been hit by someone rich. No retirement for me.

Did you do the sin known as turkey bacon? The closest I've gotten to requesting a divorce was when Mrs. Finch bought a package of that crap. It tastes like my belt, without all the flavor.

In LA you couldn't manage to be hit bysomeone rich? That's poor planning.

At least you had the good sense to be hit by someone who actually stopped and called 911. Probably better to be hit by that guy than by a rich person who bolted and let you die in the street. Unless your primary concern is for the wealth of your beneficiaries.

my beneficiaries would possibly be better off if I hadn't made it. I don't remember who my beneficiaries are, though. Calling 911 was a good move, as was being hit near a hospital with an emergency room.

Travel Tip?

So, what's the best way to get from Washington/MD side to NYC any more? I know the Chinatown bus is probably the cheapest, followed by Peter Pan. But what's the Best way, giving some weight to cost, but also considering convenience and comfort?

Also, I'm still looking for NYC hotel recommendations. Again, doesn't have to be the cheapest, but should give good bang for the buck. Plus be on the West Side no farther downtown than Hell's Kitchen.

TIA!
