Bottom of the 11th, just before Mauer grounded out. Don't remember any kick toward the ball--the pitch was up around Cabrera's eyes, and seriously 4 or 5 inches off the plate. The kind of pitch that most batters couldn't reach if they knew it was coming.

Everything else is just trying to be king (or queen) of the dorks.
I don't know about that. Yes, a lot of nerds gravitate to law school. But so do a lot of fuck-ups who couldn't think of anything better to do.

Also, I'm not sure having a hardcore life and being a nerd are mutually exclusive propositions. I mean, look at us. You wouldn't say this place was a nerd collective. You'd have to categorize it as a group containing mostly native non-nerds who've accrued some nerdist tendencies as a result of being in a field dominated by nerds.

Hank, don't you know that not all the fbetties like the constant piston-like-pounding of wild screwing?

I don't know what's wrong with them, but that's beside the point. I say hammer it home anyway.

Agreed. I removed House Hunters from my tivo list. Who the hell wants to watch people choose between $200-$300 k houses? Gimme the good stuff.

Dude. Anyone who has spent nearly a decade conversing with imaginary internet friends on a chat board was a nerd from day 1.

Good lord, people. Burger, you've turned into Ty. The rule is the rule. If you hit any part of the batter, he takes his base. I don't understand this "Well, he shouldn't make the call because the rule should be this..." attitude. I agree that they shouldn't be allowed to wear armor and the pitch should have to make contact with the player's body. But that ain't the rule.

And the hit by pitch rule is a bright line rule, unlike balls and strikes, which everyone knows are called on an amorphous standard day in and day out. Did the pitch touch the batter? Yes. Okay. Take your base. An ump blowing that call is different than an awful ball or strike call.

Not a mild screwing. He blew the call and cost them a run. Mind you, I was rooting for the Twins.

Well then you should already be having fun. Anything can happen in the playoffs and the Twins are indeed the hottest team in baseball (as is often the case with wildcard teams).

Chinese Alternative Medicine

At the bar last night, a doctor of Chinese medicine accurately diagnosed a few of us, who she'd not seen for a while, by examining our tongues.

It was thrilling and creepy and now I am very intrigued.

My father had amazing results with acupuncture, but I am a neophyte. Anyone use it acupuncture or other alternative therapies?

Fun fact: a man of 40 should have sex once every two weeks, a woman of 40 . . . once every three.

I disagree. And can someone organize a dance with our sister school, The Feminist Collective?

My wife. She is always entertained when someone is "wowed" by granite countertops. Or when they want to lay carpet over hardwood floors. Or when one of their priorities is making sure there's enough room in the back yard for their trampoline. Or when they're upset that the basement isn't finished ("all you have to do is put up drywall for christsakes!").

Actually, I don't know why she watches since the people almost always piss her off.

I'm not 40, but both numbers sounds way to low to me.

Then again you are clearly gullible.
