Now that there are two, does anyone have any ideas on how to quiet down old creaky hardwood floors (without doing any carpentry work)?

 | Well done sir. Well done.

I would recommend lots and lots of moving blankets. Bonus spill absorption, to boot. Or a dumpster full of guinea pig litter spread evenly over the floor. Both together are the move, though it can be hard to find your keys if you drop them. |

 | I read somewhere that you could pour baby powder in the cracks, heh heh, but I haven't tried it in my house. My strategy, at least in principle, is to step freely on the theory kids have to learn to sleep through such noises. My husband's, in both principle and practice, is to step around the creaks to avoid the risk of waking either kid.

But I am much less worried about waking the younger child than I am about giving the elder (who will be 4 next week) an excuse for getting out of bed and reciting some condition that must be met before she can sleep. |

And no ideas for you. Tell the kids to deal with it and stay in bed. Tough love, man, tough love.

 | I've read baby powder as well. I'll try it. I have some at home that we'll never use.

I think you're right about making them learn to sleep through the noises. At least the 20-month old. I am intentionally noisy around the newborn to try to make it a non-issue.

That's why I'm back at the office.

Why do I still work here? Oh, right, the market sucks.

Anyway, thanks everyone for the kind words. It makes it a little less disheartening to have to go to the office three days after.

You have all kinds of friends, hundreds and hundreds of them, including Coltrane and famous people.

But I am such a good guy that I befriended a racist from past in an attempt to build bridges and make the world a better place. Sometimes, it's not all about us.
