Re: The sheer awesomeness does. Not. Stop.

And I was going to post this link to Gawker's Balloon Boy coverage:
The breaking point: Heene told his then-assistant of Reptilians who could shape-shift that were running the shadow government, and that his fame would enable him to communicate with the masses and expose said Reptillians. He also told Thomas the world was gonna end in a solar flare in 2012, and that they were running out of time.

Where is our Shape Shifter?

Well, what Google did is use the copyright system and the class action system to create a possibly monopoly over certain works. The fact that google accomplished its monopolization through government processes is hardly a new concept. But we don't have a Queen to make appointments for production of goods.

Not to mention being a single price negotiator for the package of works.

That said, a lot of this is sour grapes from other companies (hi, Microsoft!) who didn't spend the money to scan the books.

Markets in anything copyright are difficult because having a monopoly over U2's albums does little with respect to the person who wants Lady Gaga. They aren't good substitutes so having lots of books doesn't necessarily mean there's meaningful market power.

Stop the Presses, Dating Edition

I have an important announcement to make.

I have branched out beyond my post-OddMan dating pool consisting solely of entrepreneurs who retired in their early 30s . . .

I am dating a lawyer -- an actual lawyer doing actual lawyer things for money.

Now, I know why all of your SOs get so annoyed -- late nights, early mornings, stress, etc.

Fedora and cigarettes not included.

Brooks Brothers is jumping on the Mad Men bandwagon (didn't Banana Republic have a tie in with the show as well?), featuring a Draper-inspired suit.

Does he ascend to the title of Luckiest Man in the World or will you create a new title just for him?

I don't know about the others, but I still want to hear about the mundane issues that resulted in the former LMitW voluntarily giving up his title. Color me nosey.

A word I will use to describe any weak remake, or any man who buys this suit

One word cogently expresses my view on this particular marketing idea.

the "Mad Men Edition" suit has been reinterpreterd for today by award-winning costume designer Janie Bryant.

How do we know it was voluntary?

E/O, what kind of clients does your lawman have? Does he use terms like "connected" and refer to "the family"? Did the odd man seem prone to injury prior to voluntarily giving up the title.

I can think of no other explanation.

How's that different from any other suit they've made in the past 50 years?

"Boxy as always. But a THIN box."

Designers have been trying to bring back ultra-thin ties for a decade and year in, year out, thankfully, they fail.

A thin tie is an effective way to communicate that you're not really into the whole suit thing and what you're wearing is actually a hipster costume. See, e.g., Joel McHale and Billie Joe Armstrong.

The BB Fitzgerald is actually a fairly slim-cut suit. Not boxy.

In the words of Dick Van Dyke:

Chim chiminey
Chim chiminey
Chim chim cher-ee!
A sweep is as lucky
As lucky can be

Chim chiminey
Chim chiminey
Chim chim cher-oo!
Good luck will rub off when
I shakes 'ands with you
Or blow me a kiss
And that's lucky too

Now as the ladder of life
'As been strung
You may think a sweep's
On the bottommost rung

Though I spends me time
In the ashes and smoke
In this 'ole wide world
There's no 'appier bloke

Chim chiminey
Chim chiminey
Chim chim cher-ee!
A sweep is as lucky
As lucky can be

Chim chiminey
Chim chiminey
Chim chim cher-oo!
Good luck will rub off when
I shakes 'ands with you

I choose me bristles with pride
Yes, I do
A broom for the shaft
And a broom for the flume

Up where the smoke is
All billered and curled
'Tween pavement and stars
Is the chimney sweep world

When the's 'ardly no day
Nor 'ardly no night
There's things 'alf in shadow
And 'alf way in light
On the roof tops of London
Coo, what a sight!

Though I'm covered with soot
From me 'ead to me toes
A sweep knows 'e's welcome
Wherever 'e goes

[Mary:]
Chim chiminey
Chim chiminey
Chim chim cher-ee!
When you're with a sweep
You're in glad company!

They have some nice fabrics at the top end. I had a good one years ago (until I lost the pants). But at their best, the cuts didn't drape as well as a Hickey or a Zegna. And considering you can steal the good stuff these days because stores are so economically fucked, why pay for the top of the line BB suit?

Speaking of suits, has anyone looked at the Abboud brand for sale at JC Penny or know what the deal is? Joe by Joseph Abboud. I'm intrigued as to how they wear.

How funny . . . I was going to add he's not yet the luckiest man alive because we're not yet having sex. Perhaps he's the luckiest lawyer alive?

The artist formerly known as the luckiest man alive (TAFKATLMA) did not voluntarily relinquish his title. Ultimately, I got a little too tired of being Penelope to his Odysseus.

It's all so tiresome and I have been dealing with it for so long and the issues are just usual run of the mill things. We agreed that incredibly hot sex could not overcome his ennui, the business stress he is under (after launching a business thinking that would help his crushing boredom in life), or his need to frequently withdraw from everything to focus on whatever he needed to at that moment.

I supported him without (much) attitude, with the caveat, "this is for now, not forever." This happened a few times.

Over time, bored myself, I started accepting invitations to parties and events with other people. He had the temerity to be annoyed when I attended a gala with a man he did not know.

The final straw was when I asked him out for a recent Saturday night when we were both in town (pizza, football, his house) and he rejected me, telling me: "I am going to be working and so should you."

TAFKATLMA does believe that he is still in the game, despite our conversations including the ones he precipitated that put us on hold, and that whenever he chooses to step back in fully, I am there for him.
