back in the bad times, just before Paigow left and penske left for the 9th time, back when JUAN USMC was posting, penske and I developed an exchange of safe words so we would always know if it was really the two of us talking. when this "penske" came back i generated the ping that had gone unanswered for three penske iterations. this penske answered, but was wrong.

now, finally, today he answered correctly. he is the real penske, but why was he wrong for months? maybe he had some sort of lobotomy or shock treatment- I'm sure his family has looked into that, right? plus, that would explain the quality of his posts too.

Wow, so this is what Mensa meetings are like. Good to know.

I don't know what size Jack is, but I'm 6'2" 180 (ish-sympathy weight!). Here are my thoughts on several brands:
  • Banana Republic: regular and slim fit are still too boxy; average to below-average quality
  • Robert Talbott: too boxy, but nice quality; Can be found at discount at Nordstrom Rack
  • Ike Behar: Worst shirt I own in both fit and quality
  • Charles Tyrhitt: regular fit is too boxy; slim fit is nice; average quality
  • TM Lewin: really like the semi-fitted and slim fit; average quality
  • Nordstrom house brand: love both the tailored fit and trim fit; best combo of fit and quality and can be had for $30 at Nordstrom Rack
  • Boss: no better quality-wise than shirts half that price
  • Burberry: nice fit, but overpriced since quality is only average
  • Pink: same as Boss

The problem I have with most American made shirts is (a)too boxy and (b)giant and low armholes. Most British shirtmakers (even the discount ones like TM and CT) have higher armholes.
Icky's right on Tyrwhitt.

You're wrong on Pink. I have Pink shirts I've worn for five years.

You're right on Boss. Junk, and the collars are shit. American-style long points only. (If you're even moderately thin, spreads or modified spread are the only proper collars to wear. The long points only work if you need a wider face lengthened.)

ETA: Burberry are pretty durable. But you're right on the unwarranted mark-up.

Paul Stuart supposedly has excellent shirts. Don't own one, but they're recommended. Turnbull & Asser are also decent, but they can be a bit gaudy, and the collars aren't cut back far enough, IMO.

If you're nuts, Borellis, Brionis or Kitons are really fucking sweet. But that's out of my tax bracket.

I agree. Great quality. I bought a few on sale but they never fit right. They stayed in my closet for a few years then passed them on to a trimmer colleague who wears them to this day for another few years, so far.

Out of sense of confidentiality to certain lawyers in MI, Paigow, the original Penske franchisees, the OBE, the actress who portrayed PPNYC, and et al, I can neither confirm nor deny the details of Hank's post, but I can confirm my membership in Mensa, my Amex Centurion (aka Black) card, my lapsed membership in the Prometheus society and my qualification for and completion of the Ironman World Championship in Kona.

Any questions?

I have several Borellis in my closet. They rock. Also, I forgot in my earlier post, Helmut Lang. Like his stuff. Fashion stuff, not stuff stuff, no homo, no offence, nttawwt.

My advice to you, Dr. Sebby, and et al., up your tax brackette.

I wish I'd gone to this concert

I considered going because Paisley Park is not that far away but historically these concerts have started hours late and I wasn't up for the wait.

But this time it started only 10 minutes late and the local reviewer wrote

Let's get it on.

Big battle with Philly coming up. And notwithstanding the fact that I hope we stomp them like a roach, I wanted to draw some attention to this guy from the Illadelph's remix of Empire State of Mind. He definitely gives Jay-Z a run for his money.

Normally I would be rooting against the Yanquis, on principal, no offence, however, given the fact that Hillary's move from the Senate (on behalf of NY) to State should have, to my understanding, lifted the infamous "Curse of Hillary!" that has held them down for the last 9 years, and thus, making inevitable that the Yanquis will win, without that albatrass around their necks, I am pro-Yanquis this year! Vive la Bronx!

My favorite fight to pick with friends, colleagues, clients is this:

Best songwriter of the past 50 years . . . other than Stevie Wonder?

My answer is always "Prince."

Tie between Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, and Peter Gabriel.
