There it is then. Depending on the preparation, how about some Chateauneuf or a Gigondas with those sausages? Too big??? New Zealand Pinot?

Seeing this episode in reruns always bothers me, because after seeing her tits in the craptastic Heaven's Prisoners (released like 2-3 years after this episode), I knew they were the opposite of spectacular.

Choose your weapon carefully. Those things don't drop easily and they tend to get mad when shot.
For as long as I can remember they are the only justification for keeping a gun in the truck at all times. Snakes are a necessary part of the ecosystem, in most cases. Javelina are OK if smoked long enough, but are a bit lean for sausage. Everything else you may want to shoot has a season. Feral hogs are a nuisance and our neighbors would consider us negligent if if we didn't keep them at bay.
|
Well, part of the "hide instead of shoot" plan analysis was that the only weapons we had on hand were shotguns. They would have just pissed them off.
I suspect the ranch manager, whose arsenal is larger, has pig roasts fairly regularly.

My understanding is that they raise the cattle to a certain age and then take them to a feed lot to be fattened, by the method you mention, before butchering.
Most of the beef in our freezer actually comes from another part of the state where another family member raises a few calves every year and lets us buy one at a bit under market price. They never see a feed lot and go straight from pasture (with some hand feeding) to butchering. Due to the drought this summer he sold the calves early on when his pasture was hurting and the cost of feed and hay sky rocketed. Luckily the acorn harvest looks good so the deer should be fat in a few weeks.

Almost exactly the same for us except we run our own cows. We sold off most of the calves in June, I think, which is way, way early. We're looking into a deal with a local butcher that wants to do only grass fed cattle.

I know I technically live in the same state as you, but the closest I get to wildlife is driving over the Congress Avenue bridge.

I'm trying to find another couple or two to split a grass-fed cow with me.
