Yes. It took some doing in each case.

One also had a little chinese character on her upper back, which I have just been informed translates to "Welcome to this place" and apparently comes from Farewell My Concubine

I actually enjoyed that movie, but the idea sickens me.

What in the hell is wrong with people?

Belichick

Not one post about last night's idiotic decision to go for it on 4th and two from their own 30 yard line?

What can be said? It was totally asinine.

It would be easier to justify in a playoff game, where there's no tomorrow. But in this situation, it means the Pats go from possibly having a #1 seed to being at best a #3 or 4 seed. And he gives a big middle finger to his defense.

I said something, about three minutes after the game ended, on facebook.

The stats people over at 538 and Freakonomics are lauding him as some sort of tactical genius, even though it didn't work. They all say that coaches don't go for it nearly enough on 4th down. I say that it's all very well and good to go for it with lots of time to spare in the middle of the field when the lead is substanial OR if you're playing catch-up. In that particular situation, though?? I quibble not only with the decision to go for it, but also with the stupid use of time outs AND the play that ultimately got called.

I'm looking forward to seeing the Colts again in two weeks after our heartbreaking loss last week. I hope to hell we beat them this time.

Go big or go home? That was always my philosophy. That, and "go fast or die" (I have that tattoed on the part of my arse that hangs out from my speedo). I'm still here.....draw your own conclusions.

Did these people account for the fact that a significant factor in why teams are highly successful on converting fourth downs is because teams really only go for it when it is 4th and inches?

I don't think Billy Boy was gunning to be lauded by 538 today. Not a great consolation prize.

Yes. And they also account for the fact that going for it elsewhere on the field leaves the other team in bad field position. The argument is strongest when you're at the opponent's 2 yard line, since they then have to go 98 yards if you fail, and you may get good field position back. And they also account for the overall net value through exchanges of possessions. This, however, was endgame, so the value of possibly getting the ball back was pretty low.

The only thing justifying the decision was that it was only 2 yards, not 8 yards.

Don't get me wrong; I enjoy seeing him get dumped on today, but I don't think his choice was idiotic. He made a defensible bet, and lost. He basically sacrificed 40 yards of field position for a 50-50 chance of winning the game right there. And given the ease with which the Colts scored - Manning did everything but twirl the ball on his finger Globetrotter-style on that last drive - he was probably right to think that getting the first down was New England's best and only chance to win.

Still, I refuse to allow cool reason to interfere with my enjoyment of the sight of Bill Belichik, Super Genius, getting mocked by the entire country.
