I'm not either. I wanted to be one, but I got my application in two days late.

Well, damn, I can't imagine why anyone would make Hank a mod and leave out you guys.

I'm starting to have broader concerns here about management.

The night before last, I finished up my last scotch. So, last night, I stop on the way home for a bit of Laphroaig, and all they have is the 10 year original cask strength. I picked it up anyways since I was out.

So, now the question: do I go get a top shelf bottle of Laphroaig and use this one for back up and unwelcome guests or do I grab a different bottle, knowing that I'm still going to be grabbing the 10 year when I feel like peaty scotch. Yes, it's all subjective, but what would you do?

I'd buy a bottle of Blandon's and throw that Scot shite out. It tastes like feckin' paint thinner.

Get a top shelf bottle for when I visit, and a bottle of Johnny Walker Black for when less important people are over. The 10-year is good for when you are alone.

Generally no. Not so much because of the hangover -- I don't think I've ever had that -- but because when I drink single malts I'm in the "sit back and have a relaxing drink" mode, which generally is coming after a few glasses of wine. When I'm in a "sit at the bar and have several drinks" mode, if I'm drinking Scotch it's going to be JWB. If for no other reason than cost.

You see, everyone here realizes that Sidd does live a little, and perhaps even more than a little.

For those who have forgotten, I would point out that you are the guy who won't buy a $70 bottle of Scotch to have a special sip at home from time to time. (I'm not saying that to you as a comeback as I fear whiffitude.)

I'm generally unwilling to buy several single malts at a bar because they are very overpriced, and because once you get past a certain point of drunkeness the taste subtleties are not as interesting. If I see something that I didn't have at home and liked/was interested in trying, then I'll have a glass or two. But that experience is getting more and more rare -- I prefer Islays, there really aren't that many out there, and I probably have a bottle or two from most of the Islay distilleries.

I'll branch out from Islays on a good recommendation from someone whose tastes and extravangances I trust (i.e., Sebby or Slave, but not you).

If memory serves there was a tax board here for about an hour, until I asked why.
