Read Fugee's post, or a newspaper, or a political blog, etc.

fugee said: I don't think the difference is just 2 months vs. a year. It seems like the Senate wants the 2 month extension so the parties can negotiate about the other stuff and the House GOP wants to use the time crunch to just get what they want without negotiation.

ol fug doesn't say what the differences are substantively, eg "the other stuff".

Ty, do you know what the other stuff is? I'm asking and you don't seem to be able to articulate the diff. i admit I'm vapid. Do you not care that you seem as stupid as me since you can't explain the diff?

Yes. Just tired of your schtick.

Read what I quoted from CNN -- the "other stuff" is what is in the House version that isn't in the Senate version.

So far that's the best thing I could come up with to explain the difference.

It is indeed tiring.

Boehner's was lit up like a christmas tree with pet projects for Rs that they wouldn't bring to a vote independently. Hank, it's about the payroll tax: the Dems want a tax cut for Americans, and the Rs are refusing to give it to them unless they agree to other goodies.

Why won't these people just bring up the tax as a separate vote, Hank, why? Why won't they even let their members vote on the Senate bill?

I honestly haven't read any of it. All I know is what I saw on the news. Boehner cites the difference as 2 months v. 1 year. that's all that people who don't read politics blogs know from the news.

I personally think Obama and the senate should pass the extension- make it two years- nothing else in the bill- make it a Waterloo moment.

One of the problems is that the Senators are all home for the holidays. Yeah, they can all get on planes Monday morning but it's still not quite as easy as just changing "months" to "years" in their bill. They still have to figure out how to pay for the cut. Don't know if what they planned for the 2 month extension would work for two years.

Bottom line is that the House Rs are being asses with the brinkmanship.

Iraq

So it took, what, like two days before they started tearing each other apart again?

Remind me -- what was the point of bringing democracy to that country?

It appears Boehner has found his "Gingrich moment". What killed Gingrich was that he kept doubling down after he'd lost. Let's see if Boehner does the same.

I think it had to do with the 2004 elections.

The Illuminati have been conspiring to create an independent Kurdistan for 1000 years, and with the help of the Bush family and the CIA they're almost there. It's all got something to do with Rashid ad-Din Sinan and the Templars.

(note: this may not actually be the real reason, but seems as plausible as anything else I've heard to date)

Is this a last ditch attempt to get Penske back?

Serious question: Do you think we should have stayed?

I think (and am guessing Sidd feels the same way) that we never should have gone there in the first place. Gazillions of dollars spent and lives lost and I think they're just going to trade one kind of violent or repressive non-democratic government for another.
