Guess I don't even need to give a statement since they have the bike and now the guy's ladder. They should at least fingerprint the ladder to see if they have the guy's prints already, but I'm sure they won't. Sigh. I'll be doing a lot more making sure my balcony door is locked when I leave the apartment from now on. | I live in a 1 square mile little burg two miles from 8 Mile Road. The city prides itself on little crime and a police force that sees everything. My son and some friends got caught egging houses, and my little speech was "you live in ____-, the police have nothing to do but look for stuff. You'll not get away with anything like that here."

Six months ago I woke up to my car window being shattered and the nav system gone (they don't take airbags anymore!). As expected, the police were there quickly and made a report. i asked what was next, and he said, "nothing. Unless we catch a thief in the act we won't catch him."

If where I live doesn't follow up, nowhere does.

Property crime is the new mosquito bite of living near other people. Penske blames the clintons.

 | Nav systems get stolen? Good thing I opted not to get one and just use my phone's GPS.

* although the map does help see the approaching roads.

From them?

 | collision shops buy them back. for years air bags were like money for the same reason, but now they aren't worth anything, not sure why. there are stories of people getting their car back AFTER the nav system had been replaced. one guy's house was already in memory, another guy found the CD that was in the unit when stolen.

 | 1. Because you don't like dicking around with wires
2. Because you need the outlet for a radar detector
3. Because you don't like a GPS falling into your lap
4. Because you like a screen bigger than 3".
5 Because if you're paying 60 grand for a car 2 grand for a GPS is no big deal.

It's always best to set the home location for the closest police station near your house.
