Re: Towards A Virtual Williamsburg!
My example stands. Rodman was actually very effective.

I don't know. Hard to beat a clothesline foul. I'd have to give it to Hank.

Rodman is my favorite player ever. Before Dennis got his sea legs Laimbeer won the rebounding title. As Dennis came on he took too many boards for Laimbeer to repeat.
The second championship year they had a bet to see who would get the most. I remember a game in February against some beat up team that the Pistons were clearly going to beat. At one point there was a defense board, and Laimbeer and Dennis were leaping and tapping and fighting each other to get it. The other team went back up court, the other Pistons did too. It was just the two of them fighting for the stat.
The other team must have thought them huge assholes.

Did they both clothesline each other?
And it didn't take that episode to reach that conclusion.

Ahh, time for my annual telling of the "dirtiest player in the NBA."
Around the time of that foul on Larry the Pistons played the bullets in the first round and won in game 5. The next day a friend was flying DTW to DCA. Daryl Walker was at the gate. My friend asked him if Laimbeer was really a dirty player. Daryl said no, he really wasn't. Who was the dirtiest player in the NBA? Well according to Mr. Walker, it was clearly Boston's very own Danny Ainge.

The question: You are coaching for Faith Baptist. At what point in the game do you make it known to the other coach that if young Mr. Taylor takes another shot that The Lord, or perhaps one of your bench players, will verily smite Mr. Taylor so as to preclude additional gratuitous scoring opportunities? Alternatively, how would you propose to halt this unsportsmanlike display?

(edit- just checked last year's scores and it looks like a 75 point win is extreme even for them)

I'm with Ferrets. Knock this guy on his ass when he gets to 50 shot attempts. When he reaches 99 points, walk off the floor and let him score as many as he can without an opponent. What a stupid fucking thing to do. And it's a bullshit record to have in a team sport.

in context I posted it as a dirty foul. the prose was obviously not my true feelings. Although back then people did monster hack superstars who drove in. I can't find Magic nailing Zeke but he got nailed repeatedly back then

That is true. What constitutes a flagrant now is often just ridiculous.
But you have to admit that Detroit was the absolute worst at dishing out cheap shots.

+1. Team should have more pride than to give up 138 points.

Detroit was pretty bad, although mostly Mahorn and Laimbeer. There was a guy on the Bulls that was really dirty- Tree Rollins maybe?

I know Cartwright loved to throw elbows and pretend like they were accidental.

I don't know. If Jack Taylor wants to go pro, he'll now at least get a look somewhere, and not a lot of Div 3 players get to say that. If not, and he has a traditional post-college-Jock career, I'll bet he gets a lot more calls returned when he's cold-calling to sell insurance.

You mean pro overseas in a country where basketball isn't very popular, right? This kid has absolutely no shot at the NBA or any elite basketball league in Europe. He's 5' 10", 170 pounds. He doesn't look that quick and he shot almost all jumpers while his team rebounded and passed the ball right back to him again and again. It's not like Wilt's 100 points or Kobe's 81. I doubt that kid could start on a halfway decent Div. I squad.
