Are there people who actively log in to linkedin? I check it about once a week -- usually only because someone "endorsed" me for something they've never actually witnessed me doing.

I do - a few of the groups I'm in are actually useful and informative.

Re endorsements, I have a friend who does bar grievance defense, and he says this is going to become a huge potential issue for lawyers. After he told me that, I don't show them and I don't give them. (I have done the narrative recommenations, though, for people I actually recommend.)

Yes, one hopes any such claims are laughed out of whatever forum they're made in, except they're going to come in front of a bunch of 70 year old real estate attorneys who think someday this internetty thingy might catch on and woe to the world when it does. It's like having the grandmas and grandpas on the SCt handling IP cases.

I tend to sign on to linked in after attending conferences or events and do follow up with whatever prospects I trolled during the event. Yes, it makes me feel dirty, but so does everything about the law... Now I'm going to cry. BnB, hold me.

Someone needs to start putting up spoof pages on the site. It could easily be done. "Is [Insert Target] an expert in Neoclassical Expressive Dance?" A profile with a list of endorsements for Palm Reading, Archery, Roulette, etc... could be quite funny if done right. That could go viral immediately.

As I write this, I realize, it has to have been done by someone already.

I've had more calls from headhunters this year than any year previously. I haven't become more awesome this year, but I do have a linkedin profile. I suspect that there's a connection.

Also, linkedin seems to be down for me today. I note this because yet another person "endorsed" me for my expertise in privacy law. This one actually works with me and more or less has seen my privacy law skills in action.

That is their money and future. I know.someone who worked in marketing there and their income is made by selling access to their database to employers and headhunters, which full searchable functionality. Law is so fucking far behind that it is a negligible part of their recruiting income so far. My old firm is still using craigslist because they think they are modern and saving $50 by not using CalLaw or the Chronicle. Worse, even, they pay headhunters.to "find" candidates. So, in sum, mature lawyers are uninformed, ignorant, clueless and a menace, at least when it comes to almost anything beyond the dictaphone.
