It put me in the hospital or five days. Not fun.

Flu
well just heard that about a year ago a fellow who used to work for us went home sick on Thursday. He died that Monday at 51 from H1N1.
For those of you who have had the flu, do you get the flu shot?

An even better queston is if you rail against the anti-vacciners, but dont get a flu shot yourself. You are a hypocritical, self-indulgent disease vector, who I would find liable for manslaughter, and sterilize you and your progeny for bearing clearly defective DNA.

I didn't used to get the shot, but then about 10 years ago my son (then 3) and I got the flu, and it was awful awful awful. My fever (untouchable by NSAIDs) lasted for four days, and his for nine. We were sick (he developed a double ear infection) for the better part of a month. Since then we have been super faithful about getting the flu vaccine every year. Notwithstanding the vaccine, he got the flu last year and missed a week of school. At least the rest of us didn't get sick.
NB: If you have gastrointestinal symptoms other than vomiting caused by uncontrollable coughing/phlegm, IT IS NOT INFLUENZA. Please stop calling gastroenteritis "stomach flu." </pet peeve>

It doesn't matter. The vaccinations, flu shot and sterilization will all become mandatory once the NWO is installed this summer:

Sorry to hear that folks know so many otherwise healthy people dying from H1N1.
I went to the travel clinic in January for yellow fever and malaria prophylaxis for Central America travel. My tetanus was out of date and I figured I'd get a flu shot too so I anticipated 3 shots and some pills for the malaria. I ended up also getting a Hep A shot and MMR booster. I was sort of depressed that the doctor felt the need to start a hard sell (particularly for the MMR I think) until I said I am a public healther and of course would get all the recommended shots. Plus I'd already voluntarily come in for shots.
I admit I procrastinated the flu shot because I got sort of sick from the immunization 2 years, as did my niece. I've also never had the flu and hardly ever get sick beyond a head cold but many of my clients are very young or very old or otherwise medically vulnerable and I'd hate to be responsible for carrying disease to any of them.
Somewhat apropos: my health insurance rate for effectively the same PPO plan in MA just went down by almost $100 a month compared to last year!

What if I merely snicker at anti-vacciners, or ignore them entirely (properly lumping them into the 78% of society that is batshit crazy) while not getting a flu shot? Is apathy a defense to manslaughter?

I got the flu in law school. It was THE WORST. I was in NY for the weekend with my mother and literally could not get out of bed. She was so worried about me that she changed her plans and flew home with me to Boston, and stayed and nursed me for about a week.
I get my flu shot every year.
