Or, defending the NFL in an objectionable way is only 1/3 as troubling as attacking the NFL in an objectionable way.

If ESPN hadn't made a big deal of what Simmons said, I would have never known, because I would never have listened to his podcast.

So we picked up David Price mid-season, former Cy Young winner. His record with us is not stellar, but his pitching has been pretty good. It seems like we don't get him runs. In the past I've seen numbers of average runs in support of different pitchers and on a single team there can be a pretty big spread. Other than hocus pocus is there any possible reason for this?

He's banging the batters' wives.

I meant generally is there something in a pitcher's style that could impact on their team's production. Like, they pitch slowly so innings drag and the bat are cold? It just seems a stretch.

Someone has looked at this (a few years ago), but presumably still applicable:

http://static.espn.go.com/premium/ml...bp/726092.html

Basically, to some degree it's because top pitchers may face other top pitchers, at least at beginning of season when rotations start with the ace.

Then it's luck of hte other pitcher,

And finally luck of your batters.

Not necessarily. Lots of major news outlets ran stories about him calling Goodell at liar.

Wild guess - Ty listened to the 3 minute segment embedded in many of those stories, not the entire 60 minutes or whatever talking about the spreads in different NFL games.

Lack of urgency on the batters' part because they figure he'll hold down the other team's production?

Hmm, when Verlander was Cy young he got 4 or 5 a game, actually he still does, but now he needs them.
