I invented picking Kirk Douglas (plus asking The Straight Dope about him), and all you all copied me.

Hmmm. I frequently get the same answer. Either that or "probably not tonight."

I am surprised that Barely (and I) missed this one, given our mutual bad taste - Diem Brown from MTV's challenges - http://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-...attle-20141411

It bums me out both that she ever dated that loser CT and that she lost her battle.

Standings!

There are usually a few celebrity deaths in December (winter months = more deaths), but as we enter the home stretch this year, I thought I'd give a rundown on the leader board. There are four entrants tied at 3 picks each: Jack Manfred, taxwonk, Greedy Greedy Greedy and Atticus Grinch. Under the tie-breaker rules [each correct pick is assigned a value equal to 100 - the celebrity's age at death (no negative numbers)], G3 is currently way out in front with a score of 50 thanks to the death at 71 of Thomas Menino. Here are the other tie-breaker scores:

Greedy Greedy Greedy: 50 (6 for Seeger, 29 for Menino, 15 for Sharon)
Atticus Grinch: 26 (7 for Rooney, 15 for Sharon, 4 for Pardo)
taxwonk: 22 (14 for Garner, 2 for Wallach, 6 for Seeger)
Jack Manfred: 15 (7 for Rooney, 2 for Wallach, 6 for Seeger)

Let me know if I've missed any deaths. Deaths I've counted so far are in red on the first page of this thread.

ALSO start thinking about your 2015 lists! I'll start a new thread for that pool in a couple of weeks and will take entries via PM as always. We can also discuss whether we want to make this a money pool going forward. Since we all know each other (more or less) and it's easier to collect money remotely these days, I'd be open to setting a nominal prize pot for the winner (my vote would be to make it a winner take all pool, maybe $20 entry fee?). Just something to consider...

I'm looking forward to the angel of mercy award, which I assume comes with a coupon for free entry in next year's death pool.

If we find out in 2016 that Fidel died in June, do I get lookback credit?

I can't believe none of us had Luise Rainer. I think I had her about 10 years ago when she was only 94 and gave up after awhile.

A late 2014 entry: Edward Herrmann. One of those talented character actors you've seen over the years in dozens of roles; his most recent steady gig was on "Gilmore Girls," but he played everyone from FDR to a priest on "St. Elsewhere" to Harrison Beecher on "Oz." Died of brain cancer, 71.

I've been marathoning Gilmore Girls on Netflix the last month or two. RIP Richard Gilmore.

The very first thing I saw him in was one of the sitcoms from the Golden Age of TV sitcoms, around 1962-1968. I can't for the life of me remember which one, but he played someone's next door neighbor. He was funny back then and he stayed that way.
