My wife likes Dewar's so I have drank it, but I agree it's like drinking foul water. Still it is drinkable. Next time we meet for a drink let's find a bar where we can have a Scorsby's and then we can really understand what this all means.

There is a statement made by drinking "jack" though, isn't there? I'd feel like an Artie Lange fan.

That statement is only made if you have a tattoo in a place you couldn't show your mom. And sometimes, it's a very good statement to make.

The internet has eliminated the ability to make plausible sounding declarations like "only whiskeys from certain areas of Kentucky may be legally marketed as "bourbon"; Jack Daniels is therefore just sour mash Tennessee whiskey." Sic transit gloria mundi, as the kids say.

In related news, Jack Daniels is selling some version of their product with Frank Sinatra's name and is charging Johnnie Blue prices per bottle. I like Jack and I like Frank, but this seems wrong to me somehow. Set em up, Joe, indeed.

I don't normally respond to the same post twice, but the next time we spend the entire month of October living 1 block from each other, I am willing to spend a Saturday going over your drinking habits and show you what you are doing wrong. You shouldn't order Jack Daniels. Wonk, that's who orders Jack Daniels.

I drink Jack on JetBlue flights, at events where Jack is the Not Scotch available at the open or cash bar, and at the home of an elderly relative who marks 5 o'clock with a tall Jack 'n Ginger. I'm not saying that I order it when I have the option of picking Makers, Woodford, Knob, et al. (or any Irish that's been legally imported), but it's a perfectly respectable back-up.

I actually think it tastes pretty terrible. And I regularly drink Buffalo Trace, Elijah Craig, etc, i.e., I'm not a bourbon snob.

Jack and Ginger makes me feel 20 all over again.

Taste is subjective. I am also ok with Jim Beam, but am not a fan of Old Grandad or Four Roses (an older bartender tried to get me to like that a few years ago). I've seen the brands you mention, but don't think I've ever had them.
