meaning I get to do the estate sale. I love doing garage sales, haggling etc, but was a bit nervous about this for the obvious. Anyway I kicked ass early. No qualms, no tears. I sold the fucking framing square (carpenter thing) that my dad used when he tried to teach me how to be a constructive person. That was the point we both realized I was useless as to doing good, and that I'd better go to law school and be a leech on society.

I sold that shit for $5 cold-blooded, rang the cash register. It was like that all day.

Then, 3-ish, a women asked how much for the 2 chairs they used to go watch kids soccer games. I said "6" then had this wave of grief. I walked into the nearest empty room and sobbed for a few. got it cleared up and walked back to her. She had decided not to buy.

meaning tomorrow I have to sell them again.
In some cities, there are services that will do that, or buy the whole lot themselves. Don't put yourself through this.

Or, God, it sucks that your parents died. If you need to cry, cry. If someone doesn't understand, fuck 'em. Shit, I've cried over less and if I need to defend my macho to anyone here, just wait until my chest knits and I'll kick their ass.

I'm sorry for your loss, Hank. You need to grieve if you expect to heal.

2. Cry if you need to, scream if you need to. Whatever. Fuck anyone who is critical.

And if you don't feel up to it, leave the chairs on the sidewalk somewhere. Someone will take them and use them, and you don't need 6 bucks.

it's part of the journey I suppose- my point was the crying came from nowhere. today I tried to sell the chairs twice, without incident. Hopefully tomorrow I won't punch someone who tries to talk me down on price for the chairs- thinking they're disrespecting my rents- the Sunday sale crowd is the worst.

Maybe it’s some kind of Jewish thing?

Hang in there. It's sounds like one of the circles of Purgatory.

Can't you just dump it all on eBay?

Sad threads

Sorry I haven't been catching up, then I see a few sad threads here. Dealing with tragic death on nearly a daily basis professionally has very little positives.

But, I had the opportunity to go to a happy family occasion yesterday. It made me realize how much I love hanging out with family and fucking hate my fucking job.

+1. Keep em and use them when you have the chance. Maybe it's not until your kids have kids, and you're watching them play U6 soccer. You can tell them your parents watched their parents from these chairs and you're going to do the same.

More on Sparklehorse

Boston Globe obit, “50, of _________, died after a brief illness on April 9th, 2015.” She was a family court advocate for dependent youth (didn’t know that; we could have talked shop maybe). Her family asked for contributions to a fund, apparently in furtherance of that interest around New England. A memorial is planned for May 31st.

PM me if you want a link to the legacy.com obit.

Anyone with enough google skills to find this place should be able to find.

Thanks.

Yeah, I struggled over how much to include. I thought briefly about just posting a link, but that felt wrong. Sorry if it went too far. I’d edit the original post but then everyone who quoted it would need to edit, too. Anyway, let me know if you think this is TMI.
