As a small government conservative, I have obviously been pretty disappointed with the GOP for many years. It is now beyond shameful. In any case, Trump's new coalition is destined to fail spectacularly, and I will feel nothing but sweet, sweet Schadenfreude. He said he didn't need us and did not even want our support, while at the same time threatening those who opposed him.
ETA: They did the floor vote, forced it through and determined the Ayes had it even though it was pretty balanced. Refused a roll call vote. Chairman walked off the floor. State delegations are walking out. This is an entertaining dumpster fire. Frankly, it looks like they could use a registered parliamentarian.

Following twitter, it sounds like there is a coup d'toupee under way, but the leadership is confident they can repress it.
They're calling in the helicopters and personal jets now.

If the coup d'toupee fails, there will be hell to pay.
Trump seems to be asking Baio to take control of the rules process, and purge the offenders.

I am a wee bit skeptical. The rebels have been vanquished, but if the rebel forces were so weak in the first place, why not have a roll call that shows the overwhelming support for the candidate? Why harass the petitioners into fearing for themselves?
Oh. Yeah. That's why.

What they need to do is line up the signatures on a new resolution now and go up to the sgt-at-arms knowing they have signatures to force a full written roll call. They need a new hook for that, so I'd make it a motion to suspend the rules or vacate the chair.

The RNC won't release the list of the names of the people who supposedly withdrew (following literal arm-twisting). The chair also conveniently appeared not to hear Senator Mike Lee screaming point of order when they announced the withdrawals. They were literally ignoring anything they didn't want to deal with. That's why the CO delegation walked out (unclear if they are returning) and Ken Cucinelli also threw down his credential and walked.
I am pretty sure the roll call should have happened under the convention rules. It was a bit hard to follow when the chair walked off the stage and a jazz band started playing.

After Thursday Trump will be getting "classified security briefings." Anyone want to bet that he slips up and leaks something during a speech or interview?

Hardest thing to do is beat someone who gets to both make and enforce the rules. Times like this are when the hard core political operatives earn their keep.

It seems very Republican that the convention disturbance consisted of people raising their hands and shouting "Mr. Chairman! Point of order!"

I feel for the poor party hack who has to say, "Senator X, sir, I'm sorry, but fuck you, sir, that's out of order" knowing that Senator X may be the best place for them to get their next job after the Trump Clusterfuck is over.

I'm sorry. What the fuck are you talking about? Your argument is that because the Democratic base preferred one candidate to another that means those who voted for him based that preference on his blackness over her status as a woman? That's the pecking order? You are off your fucking rocker.

No. Your argument is stupid on its face. Being excited at having someone other than a white man in the White House does not mean the most important factor in one's decision to vote for that person is the fact that they are not a white man. Get a fucking grip.

Re: Looking forward to Day 2
Question: If white men scream in a convention hall, but the press is focused on Melania Trump's plagiarism, do they make a sound?

Who would have thought the RNC speaker with the most credibility would be Chachi?
