Your anecdote sounds made up to me. Until I consider where you live.

I know minority union members (in multiple states) who voted Trump because of TPP.

I think you have a tendency to call bullshit on anything that challenges certain assumptions you view as facts. In an economically challenged state, Maslow’s Hierarchy often puts paying the mortgage above voting for beliefs. You don’t live in an economically challenged area.

Thought I saw exits polls of 33% Hispanic males voted for Trump?

So through decades of burned couches I’ve never been ashamed of my college, until this Nassar horror. Still I think the attack on basketball and football unfair. Nothing was hidden with either. Any thoughts?

The social issues aren’t even discussed by the people in need of $$$. We don’t understand that. We speak an entirely different language than the little guy.

Bernie got this. Trump got this.

We don’t get it.

Trump will still get clocked in mid terms, but don’t expect to see any policy similar to the ones we discuss here to ever be a platform. A national candidate simply cannot succeed with anything complex, particularly now that Bernie and Trump have let the populism genie out of the bottle.

This doesn’t end with Trump. When the racism goes, the next target is the money. And that’s not the .00001%. That’s us and our kids.

This place frustrates me for good reason. But you and Ty— you get this. I know you do.

If the rest of the world uses language to mean a certain thing, and you use it to mean something else, your usage is pointless, even if otherwise glorious.

I invite you to follow some of my relatives on Facebook, the ones who are barely getting by on blue-collar wages in jobs with no great future and who keep posting about Black Lives Matter and NFL players who kneel during the National Anthem. If you think they aren't discussing social issues, you're wrong. If you think that their views and politics are not "identity politics" it's because you don't understand what other people mean by that term.

We all understand that when you say "we don't get it," what you really mean is "I'm the only one here who gets it so I will attempt to explain it to you echo-chamber-dwelling sheep in the most condescending way possible so that it is clear beyond the slightest shadow of a doubt that I am the only one here who understands and knows everything." Which is confusing for us when you get everything wrong and then make up stuff that is so transparently ludicrous, even we sheltered snowflakes can see the ludicrosity.

Not criticizing, just observing.

Here’s something for you to get: This crazy bastard just rebooted “Morning in America” from the Reagan playbook.

This is Reagan II, the Reality Show (which might be just as useful as the real thing).

I see thru it. You see thru it. We’re so smart.

ETA: Stick to jokes.

This is dumb and not what anyone else means.

"Identity politics" if it means anything, means advocating for the rights of the oppressed. Lots of people are against that.

Kinda sounds like some non-Nassar stuff was hidden, though.

Re: Mother, mother, mother - there's too many of you crying.

It was the Sebby SOTU. Empty, but just enough "hard truth" about how we need to keep trade & immigrants out.

Trash, to anyone else.

I’m describing what I saw. I expected some babbling crap. I saw plagiarism of Reagan.

You underestimate the selling power of positivity. He pitched a generally positive vision last night, and just like Reagan, he never once explained how much added debt it would involve.

That speech was only trash to your fellow travelers. To the business community, particularly small business, Trump is a useful idiot bearing tax cuts. To Wall Street, a co-opted tool.

The Kochs are about to dump half a billion into keeping the houses red. And the left’s marketers are betting it all on “resistance” and #metoo. You might be right. Incumbents always lose in midterms. But I’m sensing this might be closer than you like.

Oh, I know, how dare I. Heresy! Right. Well, enjoy your silo.

Sounds about right. The high point for Hispanic Democratic Presidential vote on a percentage basis was Obama 2012 not Clinton 2016, but then Obama had a higher percentage overall, too. But Hispanic turnout was up (not quite a surge but up) and the Democratic vote from Hispanics was going deeper down the ballot. Republicans still get a lot more Hispanic than African American votes (and have some very high profile elected Republicans who are Hispanic), but that is changing. On Asians, I think it's changing even faster.

The polling post-election says there's been a lot of movement since. Generic congressionals show very high asian and hispanic support for Dems today. That's what I mean by taking a nose dive in the last year - since the election.

And last night -- you had to be white to not realize what a fucking disaster that speech is for Republicans in the midterms. The combination of vitriol toward minorities and utter ignorance is going to kill them among minorities, and among college educated of all colors. In a closely divided country, a relatively modest increase in voting enthusiasm by minorities wins Dems a swath of seats mostly in the south and southwest and a slight change in voting patterns in educated voters gets them another swath on the Eastern seaboard, especially in Virginia, North Carolina, and New Jersey, as well as those Orange County seats.

You mean like suggesting white folks shouldn't give a shit about civil rights?

Yeah, that's the basic core value of white supremacy. That's what I meant.

Look, I turned the lying fucker off about 10 minutes in, but followed some of the commentary on twitter and saw a couple clips from when he got to immigration. That was dark, dark stuff.

An interesting reaction I saw from a neo-con foreign policy type was that from that speech he assumes America no longer has any foreign policy at all.
