The headhunters are not great for us, they tend to favor the firms with constant associate needs rather than folks like us, who hire two or three associates a year. We've gotten great candidates from minority bar association listings in particular.

If anyone knows of anyplace we should list let me know.

You should become a member of LCLD and nominate a Fellow (at least) each year. Once you're a member, you can post job listings within the organization and those go out every week.

When we do our initial release, we usually get 50-100 resumes in the first couple of weeks. Of those, more than half will be weeded out before I see them as just not fits, but the last two searches we have done we've never gone to the headhunters, and the last time we went to the headhunters we still chose a candidate who came through our own search.

We are never looking for a lateral, so headhunters are of limited value. Plus, when we have spoken to them they seem very superficially knowledgeable-

I actually think of them as snakes from a couple bad experiences where they purported to represent me.

If I were you, I'd give the listing to internal employees first, giving them a small percentage of what you'd overpay a hh in a finder's fee if they bring someone in who gets the job. If you get nowhere in 3 weeks, open it up to hhs with specific instructions.

We do this - including for partners, who can get a check by introducing the firm to anyone we hire, either as an associate or a partner (so if any of you want to join up...).
