I'm not sure what this means. They have a government that made a policy choice that a lot of Swedes are unhappy with. Which Swedes chose to accept the extra deaths, and how did they do that?

And exercise: https://www.acsm.org/blog-detail/acs...id-19-pandemic
I'm downright obsessive about exercise. I bought a TRX and some weights. I run. I do three online yoga classes a week. I walk the dogs twice a day. I go to the speakeasy gym twice a week (there are a total of 14 people who go, and none of us are there at the same time. We sneak in at night and I'm pretty sure that I'm the only one that uses the elliptical. We wipe down everything. When I get there, it's been at least three hours since the last person left. It's as safe (in my opinion) as a gym can be).

I think it's probably because exercise gives me some feeling of control over this whole thing. And I know myself well enough that if I don't exercise and watch what I eat, things could go downhill really fast.

I on the other hand, did not go to a gym since February because my (former) gym, NYSC is a pisshole germ bucket where no one cleaned up after themselves pre virus, and you had to dodge the old dudes sitting on gym equipment still talking about Hillary's emails then heading to the locker room to blow dry their balls.

Instead I made a conscious effort to run outside. Then once the gym closed (but still kept charging people until the attorney general said she was going to file a criminal complaint) I realized that my gym going days were over.

I couldn't buy weights anywhere so started doing bodyweight exercises and kickboxing at home (I was able to buy focus bag). Then for some reason I tried Nike Training Club workouts streamed from my phone to my basement TV. Wow. I was sore in places I have never been sore before.

I love the Nike Training Club workouts. They're really challenging and there are enough that I can mix it up. Plus there are plenty that don't require equipment. I've been doing them about a year and I've been really happy with them.

Why I got into them. I have one 10lb kettle bell, two 5 lb dumbells at home and that's it.

Right now, dumbells are harder to get than hand sanitizer and no one feels bad about gouging.

I did manage to get some workout bands, which I will work into an upper body routine on between.

But bottom line, between these and the fact that NYSC's plan was to keep charging people until a vaccine was introduced, I will not be setting foot back into one of their locations.

I was able to snag a set on Amazon for $35 of 3, 5, and 8 pounds. But it took me a few weeks to find them. I mistakenly walked into our local sporting goods store a few weeks ago looking for a set of 10 pound dumbbells and the place was totally cleared out. When I talked to the guy at checkout, he said that people line up on Wednesdays and Fridays in the hope some came in the shipments. They're gone within 20 minutes of the store opening.

The line for guns was pretty long at the sporting goods store. I get that people are scared and want to protect themselves. But with this thing, I think the dumbbells are more effective against the virus than firearms.

In about a year, the secondary market for exercise equipment will be hopping.

These protestors strike me as professional malcontents. I've heard they were solicited to participate and that doesn't surprise me. I'd suspect many of them aren't employed and haven't been for some time. If they were laid off, they'd be nervous but perhaps optimistic, sitting at home with enhanced unemployment benefits, hoping to be brought back to work after those run out.
Illinois needs to open up the goddamn golf courses. It's the perfect SD outdoor activity (without carts).

I'm doing pull-ups on the pergola.

I suspect there's a bit more to some of the across-the-board closures of recreational facilities than mere avoidance of virus spread.

This virus is impacting people very differently. I have continued to work through this. I will see increased business as defaults accrue. The dermatologist down the street cannot work yet. The waitresses, bartenders, concert workers, nonessential retailers, and hotel workers cannot. My friends who are in finance are having a grand old time of it. My friends who are doctors facing this shit down every day are taking pay cuts.

Some people have secured PPP and are sitting fat and happy. Some are not. And some won't get it quickly enough to stay afloat. I have it because I kept a good relationship with a smaller bank where you know everybody. My friends who've applied to big banks have been stiffed. Cruelly. The big banks are punting on everyone with revenue under $10mil. They don't give a fuck. Not a single fuck.

This is destroying some peoples' lives while sparing others. And those being spared are doing what one would expect - trying to continue life in a manner as close to what it was like pre-virus as possible. We could all go play a round of golf if we like, I guess, and we probably should be able to do so. But I'd feel guilty about it. We all should.

I think the broad shutdowns were in part designed to send the message that we're all in this together. Shared sacrifice. Those who are still drawing income like nothing happened can be viewed as having pulled a very lucky card in a game that seems brutally unfair.

And it only makes things worse that many of these people are engaged in an industry that created much of the inequality before this crisis - finance.

Eventually, inevitably, this will savage everybody save a few uniquely resilient outliers. The Fed cannot fight Mother Nature. And when this process is finished, people in FIRE industries are going to wish they had more essential skills.

So yeah, people should be able to golf. But while people are dying in the inner cities because they can't escape, maybe it's more gracious to observe solidarity? Particularly when there's a likelihood we're all going to suffer a lot before this is done.

I have an exercise bike and acquired a 50 year old weight bench and old school heavy iron weights from my father in law.

It sucked at first, but I kind of like the old school weights. Much more intense workout than machines.

The bike, however, is driving me nuts. I ride until I hit 800 calories, at which point I can't feel my genitals, which is a bit disturbing. (I imagine, however, this would be a good prescription for premature ejaculation. "Ride this bike for 50 minutes before sex... You'll be good to go. Pay the $20 co-pay at the door. Thank you.")

There's a sign in my gym advising that the blow dryers are only for hair above the neck.

I used to joke with the manager about putting the impeachment hearings on all of the TVs. It would have been funny. The old people got so wound up about that stuff. They'd stand there and watch the close captioning like it was a Challenger Disaster or 9/11. Mostly old white dudes.

Yeah, someone on twitter posted that they are getting a lot of "we're in this together" emails from airlines, but boy did they tell us to fuck off when our bag was 50.2 Lbs.

I may have told this one before but, here we go anyway.

I developed knee pain in my right knee. Ortho said it was from running, so I stopped running for a year and did some PT and rode the bike and did the elliptical. Hurt just as bad. Finally, one nice day I saw an old runkeeper entry from my fat days where I ran six miles (the longest I had ever run) and said to myself, "Damn, down 70 lbs, I am going to try one today and if my knee flares up, fuck it I am going to pogo on one leg until I beat that distance."

I set out, I run and lo and behold at about mile 3, my knee starts to feel like I took steroids. Clear, loose, and I beat my six miles. This was last July and since then, have been running fairly steadily -- mostly outdoors -- and only have knee pain when I run double digits two days in a row or when I ride the bike or do the elliptical, which is virtually never.

Now it's tougher to do the double digit distances because there are so many fucking people around.

Heard a stat today- Worldwide large commercial passenger numbers are down 96%. 96%. After 9/11 of course the US was down 100% for a short time- but this is worldwide. Hank is looking at a tough year.

I bet they're still charging those overweight bag fees for half empty planes, though.
