I think if there's any aim it is to drive turnout in swing states by scaring older voters. "Look! Antifa's coming!"
I live in a supposed swing state. People here don't seem interested in this story, or the Seattle story. They view Portland and Seattle as loony bins very different than purple states like this one.
Minneapolis, however, definitely had people freaked out.
Trump is losing here, badly I think, because people right next door to NJ and NY were legitimately scared. And when they were scared, the Governor, not the President, provided leadership. We enjoyed only a moderate hit in terms of cases, deaths (overwhelming majority in nursing homes), and economic pain. But everybody, and I mean everybody, is and has been wearing masks. There's no tolerance for the political argument over masks. Even the stanchest conservatives here wear them. Meanwhile, the President dog whistled to rubes all over the Bible Belt they didn't need masks.
Trump tried to sell anti-science here and was rejected. Now he's trying to sell law n' order? People will still vote for him for tax reasons and to protect fracking, but no one is buying the law n' order bullshit.
I think this will be repeated through the Rust Belt. People there don't care much about what happens in Chicago, or any other large city blue city where Trump may use troops. But they can spot a desperate and cynical political ploy when they see it.

People in Chicago don't care about what happens on the south side of Chicago. I wish it weren't true, but it is.

Say what you will of John Edwards, the "Two Americas" speech was spot-on.
I think hank also nailed it years ago when he wrote "there is no aggregate 'economy' really... there are millions of individual household economies."
We aren't wired to deal with this sort of pandemic. We were barely holding it together before.

"People" don't care? you mean "people who wear Cubs hats" don't care. Most people I know from Chicago are from South Side. (OTOH I've only won the moth in Evanston, never in Chicago proper, so what do I know)

Fair enough - I should have been more specific. Chicago doesn't care about minorities killing other minorities in poor areas on the south side.
Am Sox fan.

It’s not as much race as class... more accurately described as “economic value to the economy.” A retired hedge fund friend put it bluntly to me the other day: “Socially, it’s tragic. But economically, the poor are irrelevant.”
A lot of the poor are minorities, so add in racism and you’ll find poor minorities don’t count at all. Not in the least.
And in our society that has allowed market values and concepts to dictate social values, the poor are invisible.
But the serious money doesn’t stop with the poor. They don’t give a fuck about even the common affluent: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/featu...-s-richest-men
The people at the way top see division by race as a good thing. It avoids the poor of minority and non-minority background finding common ground and together seeking to put the serious money people out of power.

In 2014 I trained with a guy named Matt who was a 2:53 marathoner. He asked me if I wanted to run with another group at lunch, so I said sure. It turned out Matt was the slowest guy in that group (and my fastest time was 6 minutes slower than Matt's). Out of the 6? guys, two of them were sub 2:30 and were trying to make the Olympic trials.
I almost died (and they were out for an easy run).

Great advice. I actually paced with one track team for like 250 yards. Then they must have said "How cute" and they were gone.

In your 20s you were “compromised?” So no one expected you to keep with the elite, as I did.
